Yeah, my shoulders slumped a little when I read that.

The thing is though, I'm 6'0 and a boxer. In highschool I used to get called too forward and once or twice creepy. As a result I'm reluctant to ever be too assertive, domineering lest I go past pushy to rapey.

Anyway, there's a fine line between assertive and creepy. If she's explicitly not interested then don't push further or if you think she's brushing you off then leave communication open but don't seem needy or pushy (like "damn, I was looking forward to seeing you").

Also it doesn't matter that the conversations didn't get far, it may even be useful to see what made those conversations less successful than this one.
