you dont need to be codependent as long as you enjoy time together and you get together regularly, it doesn't matter if you 'text'.

we didn't even have texting machines 20 years ago, we just saw each other when we saw each other.

Speaking from experience it's a bad sign. First the communication started dying down, now we're "taking a break".
