My boyfriend is an alcoholic. He's just stopped drinking for the first time (about a week sober) and is dealing with mild - moderate withdrawl symptoms like lack of sleep, tremors, and hallucinations.

Has anyone gone through alcohol withdrawl before? How long will it take for the symptoms to stop? How can I be supportive and help him stay sober? He hasn't been to the doctor yet (too much pride). I've mad him promise to go if he has a seizure, and he will be going soon to get some medication to help him sleep. I gave him some of my lorazepam (1mg) and it really helped him at night but I only had 3 pills and I know it can't be used long term.

Basically tell me anything I need to know.

all his symptoms are pretty common for just about any addiction , I recommend you get him to jog / run a little in order to wear him out that should help with the sleep , hallucinations are related to sleep loss for me anyway ,tremors are just the craving and him resisting , it'll pass in about 2 weeks after stopping the craving will go away
