Take magnesium & fish oil supplements once/twice a day, both are really good for mental faculties and brain. Google about this, there is endless list of benefits.
Any creative/technical hobby is good. Literally whatever you pick, it's going to sharpen your mind. It's although preferrable to pick one that you can cash in as you progressively get better.

I've been thinking about doing this actually. Do they help in the long run or just temporarily? Any suggestions?

I used to take Piracetam, its pretty fucking geat stuff but that was a long time ago, I stopped because I was a poorfag. Its basically like going down a difficulty level in life, thats the best way to describe it, everything just gets easier. As far as being permanent, how are you gonna forget something you learned?
People may say reading or learning. I would say socialising, if you don't already.

What does a "sharp mind" look like to you? Is it increasing speed of your mental math? Telling witty jokes? Paying more attention?
All of this can be accomplished by, of course, good diet, sleep, physical fitness, and maybe the use of supplements and 'nootropics'.
But think of what you WANT to accomplish. Faster mental math? Practice, learn tricks, read and think about it for a significant chunk of your day. Want to become more witty? Journaling, talking to yourself, studying other witty people in your life can all help.
Basically - it's like those brain training games. What are you actually accomplishing? Increased "mental sharpness" or just good at solving particular puzzle games with particular logic? There isn't a shortcut to be amazing at everything.
