Fresh outta college with a degree in English (inb4 "hurrdurr useless degree") and currently on the job hunt for anything that relates to my skillset.

What are some things I should/can do to elevate myself above the rest?

So far optimized my LinkedIn, Glassdoor, etc. pages with all my info, started a website that showcases my portfolio, and thoroughly thought thru my resume and cover letters.

Any ideas?

You're going to find very few jobs that are specifically for someone who studied English. What you need to be doing is looking for general jobs that require a degree. Look at what your skills are and match jobs to them, not your major.

Part time work, volunteering, research or other work (especially if it's published). It's also a bit late for this, but involvement in school life doesn't hurt either.

That's what I've been doing more or less, I've matched up jobs to my skills (e.g. "marketing Coordinator", "Content Writer", "Digital Marketing Manager"). The job market is rough as I've heard from everyone around me. I'm told that hundreds of applications can be sent only to hear back from one company, which is currently where I sit. I can send out a hundred applications in a week but I'll only hear back from one place (which is fine) but I wanna know what more I can do.

I'm currently working part-time for a tutoring company and at an Amazon warehouse doing grunt work, what do you mean by research? I'm also currently brushing up on skills like coding and analytics.

Well you know how there are academic journals where people can write articles and essays? See if you can get your work published in something like that, you might need a former teacher's help. I wrote an article that was eventually published in my field (it was originally for a class, but the professor submitted it to a journal), and that's really impressed a lot of people because no one expects someone with just a Bachelor's to be that accomplished.

Why did you wait until after graduation to think about your future employment? Seriously lol

You can be a waiter. You can write English on your little notepad when you take my order.

Things you can do better than 90% of the population (including other college graduates):

-Read and absorb new material
-Write clear, coherent, correct English Underline that one five times. Simply writing two consecutive sentences that make sense has become a specialist skill in our society.
-Synthesize, combining data from various sources in a fresh form
-Brainstorm, batting ideas around with others to collectively develop new ideas (What you did in discussion classes)
-Work independently, being sent off with a loose assignment and coming back with a polished original product. (You called it a term paper)
-Recognize quality and be able to explain it. (This may not seem transferable, but it is. Because you know that Shakespeare is good, and why, you can tell why a business idea is good or not)

Think about the ways these skills apply to each specific job, and use them as your selling points. In an ideal world you would have a separate, individually-designed resume and cover letter for each individual job. But at the very least, have several, each packaging you in a way of special interest to each employer.
