What's University like compared to High School?

I was always a slacker but Ive cleaned up my act since them. I'm 21 and I've gotten myself into a position where I can comfortably go back to school.

its whatever you make of it for the most part. because of the way the schedules work its less classes, less time in class, but more time on homework. there isn't a NEED to be a part of the social hierarchy. some people use college simply for education. others engage a little. others a not at all.

>its whatever you make of it for the most part
Basically this. You will need more discipline than high school and if you were a slacker in high school, you'll probably fall back into your own ways.

You don't even know me, or the amount of effort I put into changing my habits. How can you possibly assume Id go back to my teenage mentality?
>>
>>18543002
Considering how defensively you responded to that other guy i don't think college is for you senpai
>>
>>18543002
Because old habits die hard. You haven't been in a formal education setting for at least three years and if you didn't have discipline in high school where everything is spoon-fed to you, you more than likely won't in an environment where you're expected to have self-management and time-management skills.
>>
It's fucking great man. Bitches are still hot for a couple of more years while being 100x more slutty.
>>
>>18543002
>B-but you don't know me I'm special!!

Well no shit we don't know you you defensive fuck, obviously we can only give you general advice; if you're gonna dismiss it outright then fuck off

Personally, I found university to be easier than high school in terms of coursework, overall. Sure, shit started to pick up as I started to reach the end of my degree, 300+ level classes are kind of difficult, but the fact you don't have a class every single day, like I did in my high school, made it much more manageable.
Also, you get more choice in what you're taking. I sucked at math, I hated math, but because I didn't go into a math related degree, I took 1 math class for my gen eds and never had to take one again. 90% of my courses are things I'm good at, because I chose a degree I'm good at. So its less stressful in that aspect.

Socially though, college was impossible. I had friends in high school, it was easy to make and maintain friendships in high school, because you're all corralled in the same general area. College you're constantly running around campus between classes, and (at least at my college) getting into the same classes as your buddy is a pipe dream. Also, in high school only like, 3% of my friends had jobs, and the ones that did only worked a measly 15 hours a week just to get some spending money. Therefore planning parties and meetups and events was a breeze.
In college what few friends I have left 100% of them have jobs, some that are working 40 hours a week at. Planning stuff now is like
>Friend A is off on tuesdays
>Friend B is off on fridays
>I'm off on sundays.
>None of us can afford to ask for a day off.
Your schedules will never collide.

>TL;DR
Academically I found it easier, but the price of that is a nonexistent social life.

>Your schedules will never collide.
I've found it's worse when you've all finished and are working.

Also I didn't really have much of a problem socially. Most people in your major are always going to be in your major so it's not like you won't have some classes together. As for working, most of us worked on the weekends so between and after classes was always an option for socialising.

Then again, I'm not really an autist and I made an effort to talk to people around me.

Yeah, I assumed social life was all down hill from high school, just seeing my parents.
I mean, once you get jobs and move god knows where for those jobs, you're basically fucked. Your best bet is to have a spouse or potential spouse by then, because for the rest of your life thats the only person that will ever be your reliable friend. Everyone else will just come and go in life.

>Most people in your major are always going to be in your major so it's not like you won't have some classes together.
True, but the issue comes in when people take different courses at different times.
I've gotten to know a small handful of people in my major from the few classes we've all had together. It helped that my major is education and we're all lumped together for the most part but then broken down into content areas, so we all kinda cliqued up a bit. All the social studies education majors group up whenever we find each other in our classes, and the other contents do as well. My saving grace is that social studies seems to be the largest group, there's like 15 of us compared to like 5 math majors, 9 science, and 10 English. (And then there's the weird ones, like we have 3 PE majors, 1 French, and 2 agriculture education majors. They all group up as the "others" I guess, except the french girl, she affixed herself into our group somehow but she's chill.)

But still, none of us hang out outside class or anything. We just group up while we're in classes, whenever we happen to have mutual classes.

>Working weekends only
Holy shit lol. How do yall survive? Where I'm from you can't even ask for scheduling like that from any place of employment. Hell, you have to cross your fingers and pray they don't put you on the work schedule outside the availability you gave them when you applied.

But I suppose it depends on the job market wherever it is you're going, and also how your school schedules things.

>the issue comes in when people take different courses at different times.
Well there were always the core classes that everyone had to take so we'd see each other then, plus like I said, time between classes and after classes. One of my friends would go to the library early and nab a study room, and then we'd all just come and go as we had classes but there was generally always one or two people in there at a time.

Where I live, you can get a few hundred dollars a week on top of your student loan (which is normal here) so any part time work most people did was just to top off what they needed for rent and whatnot. Plus most places where students work here are places that won't even take you if you won't work weekends.

At my college my higher lvl classes are my easiest but im a psych major going into a social work masters
>>
>>18543165
Yeah like I said, depends how your school does things.
Mine likes to only offer 1, MAYBE 2 sections of any given course. And they schedule all of their daily courses so close packed together the amount of time youd have between courses was 15 minutes max, which was usually spent in its entirety booking it across campus because they would also never schedule you in buildings nearby, you'd always be a mile away from the next class guaranteed.
>Spoiler: my school is a terrible school though

Lol don't get me wrong, you won't get hired here if you don't work weekends, but you also just plain won't get hired if you don't take a minimum of 20 hours a week, and are willing to do at least 3 shifts weekdays.
Came back to my hometown for summer to work, I was amazed to see people doing as little as 8 hours a week on our scheduling. It's a whole new world in this city, my college town wouldn't ever dream of hiring someone willing to work so few hours, they'd rather just dump extra hours on existing employees whether they wanted them or not because it's cheaper to do that than waste time training a newbie.
