Ambien is a hypnotic or something. It was kinda neat. Though pretty easy to black out on.
Other sleeping pills like over the counter ones suck (diphenhydramine I think). You feel really tired/dry mouth/jumpy. You can have realistic hallucinations but the body high isn't really worth it.

One time i took a bunch of sleeping pills cause i was having a rough time sleeping for a few weeks and i started feeling really dizzy and i felt like i was going in and out of consciousness and i started getting really depressed thinking about life until i fell asleep

Yeah, not with codeine though. Where I live codeine ones need a prescription. Over the counter cough meds with just dextromethorphan. Read up on erowid about those, there's different dosages and different plateaus. I don't think 20 pills (300mgs) is that much unless you're a fairly small person.
