Why does my family act like I don't matter, that I exist to serve them, and they hate me?

I've noticed this regularly in the past few years, especially since I had to drop out of college that my family acts like my wants, needs don't matter, just what everyone wants of me. I know it was like that when I was a kid, but it's gotten worse since.

Take for example yesterday. I needed to buy a pair of shoes for work with a composite toe and a tarsal guard. My wife was OK since I need them, but she told my mother and got my wife against me, I was screamed at for buying new shoes when she hadn't gotten shoes in years. Now my wife acts like she hates me because of the shoes.

Why does bullshit like this happen to people?
