aside from taking a class, read books about writing. get at least two friends who can critique your works, one who is on your level, and one who you find to be far ahead of you.

when you have people examine your works, ask them not to focus on how 'interesting' the plot is or isn't, but rather the writing its self (an experienced writer will already be doing this when critiquing your work).

start reading anything in the genre that interests you and when you get done ask your self, aside from the actual plot, what did you enjoy?

seriously tho, read all small forms you'll find from french, and russian writers, maybe some japanese as well
