are degrees worthless now? for an undergrad with just a bachelors, it seems all the "big buck" (+70k) degrees are all dried up unless you went to a top tier school. And even then graduate degrees seem to be the new minimum. If I'm wrong, can any fellow anons provide examples of specific degrees (bachelors) that are even worth it financially? This whole things so frustrating
Degrees alone aren't enough. You need at least a handful of: work experience (related or otherwise), internships volunteering, involvement in school life, hobbies and interests. And a genuine passion in the field you want to work in.

Understood and agreed. With that in mind, anon, what field has the best long term potential? Engineering, finance, business, bio, etc.
Also, which field specifically, upon initially breaking into, has the fastest/largest income potential?

All fields have potential, it just depends on your abilities and where you interest lies. Nothing's going to be guaranteed. I know you want security, but an ability to adapt and move into new roles is something that lots of employers want and expect in new recruits, so if you're stuck on a career path and aren't willing to be flexible at all, then you're not going to be the sort of person employers are looking for.

A BA degree will get you to the interview. From then on your career prospects are 100% on your performance - first, at the interview and how ell you sell yourself, and second on the job and how well you deliver.

I ditto anons comments. The BA is just a box to check but the rest is on you and performance. Its sad Universities lie and take money instead of preparing kids for the real world of contact capitalism.
It helps to be interested in what you do, at least slightly.

goddamn you must believe everyone is an idiot. BA,BS who fucking cares an undergraduate degree. At some point in your career add a MBA or JD, most of the top earners have a post grad but it isn't necessary to have it for that first job.

I have a PhD in an abstruse fiekd of the humanities. I only make $40K teaching at a decent university, less than many trades.
If you have the math skills, go into STEM. Otherwise go to law school, business, or learn a trade.
