My workplace agreed to pay for the fee for a seminar which takes place in a city 300 miles away but is really important for my career, except they are not gonna pay for the accommodation, since it spans over an entire week and it's too expensive for them.
I had an idea to use several CouchSurfing hosts, 2 days each, 3 total, to cover my entire stay in that city, and I don't mind helping to buy food or grab beers with the host in the evening or anything. I can be social if necessary, but I have never done the CoachSurfing thing before, and what if I get my shit stolen, or worse, they might be gay and try to hit on me?
What advice do you have about coachsurfing?

dont bring anything worth stealing.
dont act like a gay guy hitting on you is the worst thing ever.

yeah I am probably leaving my laptop at home, probably bring few books or something instead if I need to be by myself
it's not that I am terrified by that, it's just gonna be awkward to me. Usually gays I have met in the past have been respectful and friendly so far.

Then why are you worried about it?

What city?
Maybe an anon can suggest something
Also, consider talking to a motel owner. Most motels rent one night. Perhaps he can offer you a discount for renting for an entire week. I know one of my friends' parents, they offer monthly rebates for people who live in the hotel

maybe the host is somebody really extraverted and I can't keep up with the conversation because I am anxious about being in somebody's home I've never met before. I can overcome this, I know I will, but still a little bit tense

nah I am european, I don't think you can help. Thanks for the tip about motels though, this is my second choice if the couchsurfing thing fails. Not kidding, because one way or another, I am not going to sleep under a bridge.
