Computer science: degree vs diploma vs certificate?

In the end I don't want a lot of debt and I'd prefer a job staying at home.

Is computer science the fight option? If so which route is best?

My buddy got a certificate, never went to college and now works from home. He does networking or some shit.

His best friend got a diploma from like DeVry or something and does the same thing except he contracts to build websites and programs. I think the degree is a little much.

Both are happy and in middle class making about 60 to 80 depending on how hard they work, and they dont work hard.
