I've been taking steps to improve my depression, like exercising and forcing myself to socialize. It's been going pretty well, even managed to go out and enjoy myself on independence day yesterday. I felt depression free for the first time in ages. However now I have a new problem, I've been "high-strung" all day. I'm excited, can't stop thinking about what I'm going to do in the future, and can't really relax in general. This is in many ways even worse than depression. I can't just go out and party non-stop, and my two main hobbies (reading and composing) both require calm and collected thought. I at least had clarity with my depression, now I feel all mixed up.

What should I do? I've tried meditating, it helps while I'm doing it but the effect fades quickly.

First off, congrats on coming this far. That's not an easy thing to do. However, have you tried seeing a specialist and getting some medication? It really helps even out the highs and lows, so you can think with a more clear mind, and figure ways to deal with it while depression and anxiety are not in full swing

I know what you're going through, I've had that shit a few times while I was depressed when there was a sudden surge of hope in my life. Sometimes you don't progressively get better, you just go from rock bottom to sky high, so that makes you feel like that. Give that a few more weeks and you'll start feeling normal. Be careful not to delve into depression again though, maintain the habits that got you in that state, they are curing you. Maintaining the healthy habits is very important, I cannot stress it enough. If you don't you might not feel as depressed as you were before but you'll be apathetic as fuck. Quote me on this shit man, and godspeed.

Have you tried improving your diet? Try adding vitamin d3 if you live in a foggy city and dont get much sunlight, with poor diet you can easily become depressed just biologically.
