Is it dumb to go to a university I can't afford?
It's one of the top in the country and it's hard to get into. I was accepted but it's out of town and I won't be getting any financial support. It will cost me $20,000 each year for rent, food, tuition, books etc. I only have 2000 saved up. Is this dumb? Should I go to college in town for something I won't like, like nursing or social work?

Yes, Top in the country doesn't mean you're going to like it. Also if you can't afford it you won't be able to go anyway maybe only the first year.
Shouldn't you have saved up before applying...?

I know I'd like it, i just want a good degree

I lost it all towards he upgrading i had to do, didn't know it would be that much

What are you talking about? What upgrading?

You get the same degree anywhere else. It will literally say the exact same thing with only the school name being different. OP you don't want debt up the ass and we don't even know if you qualify for loans so taking the minimum isn't a bad option here.

Try going to community college for two years, then transferring. CC is cheap, the credits usually transfer, and the first two years of a big uni are often bullshit large-lecture courses to get through the gen ed requirements before moving into your major for the last two years.

Upgrading courses for higher marks

It would've been better if you told us where you are OP. Education is different everyone

There's no transfers for the course I want>>18486451

I'm in canada

Sorry OP i can't help you there. I don't understand how a "course" means degree there but if you can't pay for it then you can't pay for it. There's really nothing else to it.

I could take out a loan but hen I'd be in debt, i needed to upgrade courses in order to have high enough marks for the university
Have fun being a debt slave. Don't go college is a scam. Get a job and work your ass off and buy yourself some land or a house instead.

College is only a "scam" if you go for a meme degree and out of state racking up debt. It's entirely possible to through grants and scholarships to graduate with minimal debt (even as a B white student I was still getting free money) and be set up for a good career.
