I feel like I'm usually the one to start conversations over the phone or organize plans with friends. But when I'm actually with people, they seem to enjoy my presence.
Do I just not have real friends? Why would people not initiate?

used to be worried about the same thing like you, then i realized i am what i worried from.
there are people who i've known for over 2yrs that i've never initiated anything first. it's just that i heavily dislike texting and if i do it it looks a lot like shitposting and that's insulting to the person especially when i can get better convos face to face that are actually meaningful.

you would not BELIEVE how common this shit is, you probably do it to some people too

Good points, anons. Thanks.

Initiating takes a lot of work, energy, and creativity anon. Some people just don't know where to start.
As someone who doesn't usually initiate plans, I'm very grateful for the people who do, and try to contribute in some other way instead.

Another good point. Thank you so much.
Just another example of my irrational anxiety at work!
Don't stop. I stopped doing it because I thought I was being pathetic and lost all my friends. Now Ive been alone for well over a year with 0 friends

Sorry to hear that, anon. I wish you all the best in building new relationships.
