How do you know you're an adult? And that you're at a point of no return in your life?
No matter how I try to get in tune with my inner child, trying to see things from the perspective of those days, and understand why I would think a certain way when I was young -- I just can no longer understand anything from that time. Like why kids love the taste of cinnamon toast crunch. It's all been lost on me.
The difference between childhood and adulthood is hope. You seem to be losing it, which makes you feel old.
Pessimism can be resolved by surrounding yourself with positive people, doing things you love, learning new things, etc.

A rather overly-American outlook.
