A couple of months? That's nothing. My boyfriend and I waited 7 months. But mind you we were 15 back then, and both pretty insecure. We waited until we were in love and had a nice place to do it. However you protect yourself, when you have sex you accept the fact that there's a chance that you'll get pregnant. I usually want to wait till I feel like the other person is someone I can trust, and someone I would raise my kids with.
It also has an emotional meaning because you're letting someone be inside you. It's one of the most intimate acts that exist.
