It feels autistic, yes, but you just have to do it. Make eye contact for a few seconds, look a bit to a side (I think by only turning your eyes, not your head) for a shorter time, then make more eye contact again, repeat. If they are unconfortable it's either because you are doing too much eye contact or because they are the autists.
Try to not do something bad with your eyebrows, I mean don't frown.
Some people never make eye contact and that can also feel weird once you notice it.
