I think it's a bit of a false dichotomy there. Whether or not you have kids, you're building some life together. Travelling, building a home, working on your careers, pets etc. Life doesn't stop because you're in love. So it's just a question of what sort of things you want to do together, what sort of life you want to build. If you both don't want kids, something else will fill the time.

They don't. The misconception that they do is responsible for the extremely high divorce rate and overpopulation problem.

If you were going to make a big purchase or go into a business deal you would insist on a contract right? Put it in writing? You are talking about a partnership in everything with a committed pair bond and marriage is a contract.

MArriage has a lot of legal benefits desu, you don't need to have kids but marriage allows you to cover a spouse for insurance, you get tax credit when you file your taxes if one of you passes away they get your stuff ect.

Marriage is a legal contract bro, it isn't just a ceremony and a party.

Some people just want to do that stuff. If you don't that's fine. If someones trying to force that then there is a problem.

However if the partner wants it and not you then the problem gets complicated.

I think that if you really do plan to be with someone the rest of your life. You might as well get married, share the same name and all.

But, you definitely don't have to have kids. It's just society set that as the standard.

It's the standard excuse for people who don't know how/ didn't establish love without lust. Large portions of people get into relationships, only being attracted to the other person's body. That kind of attraction fades, just like a taste for a certain flavor. These people, unwilling to admit to themselves and the people around them, marry and have kids to try and prove to their social circle that the last so many years with that person wasn't a waste. Why? You're not allowed to make mistakes as an adult. At that point, you're just failing.

Aside from the satisfaction of making a commitment formal, there are legal ramifications. Depending on where you live, a surviving unwed partner may have no inheritance rights, survivor or social security benefits, or even possibly the right to visit partner in hospital.
