What kind of shit is this? You're literally trying to make her dump her boyfriend because you don't want her to deal with him being depressed. That's fucked up. If she loves him and is willing to help him through it then you should do what you can to support that. If he's already very depressed and you get her to leave him, you're pretty much just putting a gun in the guy's mouth.

Depression is an illness, it's not just something you can blow off. Try and help the poor guy, don't make him more depressed.

This is not OP but someone that has dealt with someone who has had severe depression and bi polar. I tried for 4 years. Everyone I was close to tried to push me to get out of it because I ended up completely drained, changed, and emotionally/psychologically abused.

If the person they are with are WILLING to make changes. To go to therapy... then it is worth it to stay. If they aren't then save that person from a life of pain and rejection from the image of someone they loved more than any words could explain.

I haven't dated since. She was my everything, and in turn, I cant put myself in a position like that again. She is now dating someone else and I'm happy for her. We still talk and she doesn't even know why this new guy wants to leave and as much as someone tries to explain it, it doesn't even matter.

It makes me sad for the person in OP post and others suffering in the same situation.

Your concern is admirable, but for your own sake don't stick your nose where it doesn't belong.

Yes, yes, and no. Diagnosed as an adult for both. Depression isn't "oh I feel kinda sad today". Its a fucking black void. It seems to make everything... Well washed out. Makes things you used to love and people you enjoyed seem pointless and dull. Its not just sadness it could be any number of emotions, but it ends the same: a lack of interest in general life.

I know this feel so well. I dated a chick for 2 years and her depression totally fucked with me. gained weight, stressed as fuck about her constant suicidal thoughts, stressed because she became addicted to marijuana because it made her happy, stressed because every week or two she'd have a breakdown. and she never really tried to go to a therapist or counselor to talk it over.

I can relate. Dated someone with severe depression and possibly bipolar disorder who was unmedicated/untreated and not willing to get help. Relationships like that are incredibly draining, especially when the person is manipulative and controlling. I knew I should break up with him yet each time I tried to, he manipulated and guilt tripped me into staying with him. Sometimes you need someone else to tell you what you should do in order to have the strength or awareness to go through with it.
