How can I start making money as an artist?
How do I find people who want to buy my art?
Is patreon worthwhile?

I've already made an Instagram, but it's difficult to grow a fanbase. I've been thinking about also starting a twitter account and/ or YouTube channel for my art, but it's difficult to manage so many accounts.

(PS pic related is unfinished. I still gotta fix her face and the background needs polishing)

i like your stuff, a lot. you got already an intuition for light, some fags take decades to achieve it. also dramatism without being super sugary. who are your influences?

also, i dont think youll ever get a fanbase with that kind of work these days. if you took that same style and did edgy drawings of creepy shit (like the OP pic but with a deformed face, or tentacle arms) or satanic goats in the woods or some shit youd get tons of fans. but as it is, it just wont catch the instagram kiddies.
>>

also gib insta.
>>
nice work!
first, you have to get better pictures if you're going to be showing off your art online. at the least borrow your friends professional digital camera and set up a spot on a blank wall with even lighting, get a tripod and make sure the perspective is flat, the lighting is even and neutral, and that its in focus and sharp. always shoot bigger than you need and scale it down in photoshop. don't make it grayscale, even if its a black and white drawing; its super obvious and looks unnatural. there are guides online which go way more in depth on how to digitize paintings and drawings.

secondly stop asking 4chan and get your work online right now. instagram, twitter, youtube are dead ends unless you're a meme-artist or are drawing porn. if you're serious about getting your work known then make your own website or at least an edited tumblr page

yes, patreon is worthwhile. but if you're serious about this start submitting your portfolio to local small-time galleries, art shows/art fairs, and contests.

Life is tough and not many people have the money to spend on frugal things like paintings except the 1%, you can pretend to be a kike for extra cred and the oligarchy loves painting about the people they starve for some reason. It makes them feel like they care, or they just like seeing people suffer.

Your art has an amazing atmospheric depth to it but the content isn't remarkable.
>>
Your stuff is fantastic! I wish I had an answer to your question though but I have no idea. Good luck

i think you should go edgier or more "lovecraftian" and then make your shit available and start making posters for metal gigs and album cover art. thats a cool niche, you have an authentic edgar alan poe vibe there, you just need to embrace the edgyness.

Thanks. I appreciate the advice

I like your stuff.

Consider taking an artist economics course. My local community collge offers one. Get into contact with artists who are making money and talk to them, get some connections.
Finally, get your work out there. Get an etsy page, a blog, patreon, maybe even get a stall at fairs or those little mini mall things where people sell shit.
>>
Are you willing to draw furry porn for cash? That's the best way.
>>
-Start bringing your stuff to art galleries. I don't know about your city, but mine has a first Friday type thing where artists of all different types set up downtown and people can come and look/purchase. There are also small galleries inside coffee shops and the like that host art shows once a month or so.
-Make your presence online known as an artist who sells their work and also takes commissions. Have your own website and also post on facebook or whatever showing your works in progress.
-Do album artwork for bands. This really falls into taking commissions but do enough artwork for bands and others will start coming to you.
-Try selling prints on Etsy.

There are a lot of choices for you, OP. For what it's worth, I really like your work. I also agree with the anon who said maybe take it in a more Lovecraftian angle.

Get a real job and do art on the side as a hobby.

But don't focus your all your wellbeing on getting paid for you art. Because even if you do get paid it's not going to be enough to live off of

Agree with this guy. You don't have a fan base so you'll have to jump on another one. Make pictures of things people will look up.

If you've got Facebook, make an art page and invite everyone you're friends with.

Take better photos. Upload periodically. Make a proper website (Wordpress is easy) and crosslink it to the Facebook page, insta and what have you.

I find that Facebook is useful particularly because so many normies use it so it's good for word-of-mouth. Plenty of other good advice ITT but that's my 2 cents.

Also remember Henry Rollin's advice: "It'll destroy you if you try to make it mean anything to anyone but yourself."

t. same position as you, keep it up bro
>>
i'm going to go against most adv itt. i would always choose the traditional path.
with modern stuff like insta, patreon, fb and the like. you might reach some kids and if you're lucky, a few might like your stuff and it gets you more followers. but that's it. kids don't buy art. if you want to be hyped in those circles, you need to draw the generic colorful portrait with flowers or biomechanics or whatever. basically hipster-stuff that might land you a contract to do animation work if you are incredibly lucky.
if i look at your art, i see a whole different approach. you need to immerse yourself in the world of people who actually have heaps of money to spend on stuff they don't need, simply because they like it. the problem there is that those are often people who collect art for prestige, meaning that they will value your work a lot more if you set the pricing accordingly. iow, ask for 10'000 for a piece, not 75$.
those people also buy art to appear like they "get it". you can keep your style, but you need to give obscure titles that will make the viewer feel like there's something everyone but him gets. it will make it feel like your work is so deep, you'd have to sit infront of it for weeks and ponder upon the hidden message.
i like the second pic you posted. they look tired and weary, like they've experiences shit. keep that up, it might prove extremely powerfull. you need to find the balance between people feeling empathy and connection whilst still not quiet "getting" what you wanted to say.
your focus should be on getting into the circle of disgustingly rich art collectors and gallery owners. if you are determined, you can find an entrance to every social circle.
good luck!

also, consider to make your art available for money laundry. art is THE best variant for it, since nobody can tell you how to price your work.
for this, you'd need to find peopel who make a lot of dirty money, say from human trafficking or drugs. it will shoot the value of your work up if people believe that someone paid 2 millions for it...
