I bought a condensor mic to record with but when I plugged it in my laptop it didn't recognize it. it says its a 3.5 audio jack but so are my head phones (pic related) and those are recognized. what's the difference? What would I need to change?

are you plugging it into the microphone port? does the microphone require phantom power?

My friend's laptop also had that problem. The jack was only good to output sound. You could use a 3.5mm to USB adapter.

it only has one port but I so have a phantom power.

is there a possiblity i would run into the same problem with the usb jack adapter that im having with the port?

Just make sure you read the reviews of the adapter you're getting to make sure it fits your needs. USB digital audio recording might not be good with some instruments.

what kind of laptop is it? I thought only phone designers were so desperate for space that they only used a single jack.
