Is there anything very bad about taking a year off after high school?
If I were to take a year off after finishing HS, then apply to college/uni, would everything be the same as it normally would be if I were to apply to college/uni right after finishing HS?
Are there any problems with going to college/uni a year later than other students? Or would the only actual difference be that I may be a year older than other students in my classes
It will be fine. A year of difference is nothing and there's a lot of returning students that are even older. It's NBD
It'll mean that you're more sure of what you want to study. I've also read that people who struggle in high school who take a gap year are more likely to do better than those who don't

taking the year off is recommended as long as you don't stagnate. I highly recommend picking up a part-time job for some experience and opening a savings account.
If you're at all serious about college get into it now while everything is fresh in your head and your habits are still strong. Get through and have an opportunity for a job sooner, and give you more chances to enjoy adulthood while you're still young, ironically.

The biggest issue is losing motivation to go back to school.

I took three semesters after HS, then took one semester off, then I went back. I'm a pretty lazy person, so working was good for me, and I never had an issue getting motivated to go back. It was a good experience for me. I recommend it. If you can, save up money and travel Europe or somewhere far away for a few weeks.
