Is it illegal to crash a video game's server using nothing but in-game mechanics?
I found an exploit in a Steam survival game that can crash the server for about 5-10 minutes, booting everyone off the server. It uses nothing but in-game mechanics to do.
Is it considered a DoS attack? Or, since I'm just "playing the game" would it hold up in court?
Or you could just not be a dick?

Do you really think someone would take you to court over this? I think you're fine.
Yes, this falls under the definition of denial of service imo
Do it, maybe it'll prompt Funcom to get their shit together.

This
you aint some new age rebel for crashing a server
just a little shithead
The TOS of every single online game covers exploit abuse. Your account will be permabanned if they can find out it was you that did this.
There won't be any serious legal action tho but your playing priviledges will be forfeit

>Funcom
I mean.... has fun com EVER had their shit together?
That place has always been a shitshow of flawed execution and launches as far back as I can remember.
I remember playing their Age of Conan game when it was hyped up as fuck and just released, got to level 70 or whatever, absolutely fucking nothing to do.
Not to mention the travesty that was the Anarchy Online launch.
