To anyone that keeps regular contact online with somebody, what can we use that is simple and effective to communicate but not as direct as IMs or texting?
Emails are becoming a pain in the ass.
I liked FetLife's simple approach to it, is there anything like that?

Why is the next step after emails not IM though? Was it your idea or from the person you're in contact? If it's the later it seems a bit like a red flag and they are perhaps in a relationship and are hiding your conversations.
If it's about not seing a Read or if the other person is online, perhaps discord?

there is not some magical middle ground between an email and an instant message. either you're writing out as much as an email, or you're having a live conversation. the closest is facebook where you're just commenting on each others more daily mundane shit that you post as opposed to having a conversation.
