Do you have something to talk about? Yes? Then start with that. No? Then you shouldn't be trying to converse with her at all.

Nothing is more annoying than someone who starts a conversation with some bullshit like "hey" or "what are you up to?" and then expects you to lead the conversation. If you're texting me, have a reason to text me.

Its all subjective to the person. To break it straight to you OP if she was interested she'll be texting you as much as possible and wanting to make conversation. She'll want to not let it die and start to do stupid little things to try and make you keep talking with her.

But its a double edged sword, she could be shy and not want to ruin it with you, you have to make the honest judgement based on your interactions with her and go from there. If you really want to talk with her find an excuse even if its a brief exchange try and see her reactions to what you say. Short one worded responses, long replies, or nothing in general.
