How likely it is that a Snapchat screenshot notification is false?

I'm not exactly sure how it works, but I think if someone uses the system screenshot method (clicking the home+lock button on iphone for example) while snapchat is open, the alert is sent.
If you received a notification saying it was screen capped it most likely was. Remember that even with snapchat, anything you send out can be kept. I know some of my friends have taken pictures of nudes with other friends phones so that the alert trigger wouldn't get set off.

I remember when snapchat was relatively new a few years ago there were a bunch of apps that let you open and download snaps sent to you without the other person knowing. Not sure what it's like now

He definitely took a screenshot. If he had done something else that could have possibly triggered snapchat (like taking a screenshot of something else), he would've mentioned it. Even then it'd probably be a lie. I'm just saying the fact that he didn't give any excuse makes it more likely

There is actually a way to save snaps on iOS without the person knowing, without another app.
When opening the snap, exit the app, then quickly go back in. The app will be reloading but in the meantime it will show the snap you just opened, so take a screenshot. A few seconds after you'll be greeted with the camera (main screen), and the app will think you just took a random screenshot, not of the actual snap.
It's a bit "complicated" to explain but it works, and I found it myself.

This has actually happened to me once before. Note, ONCE. I sent some stupid picture that my friend had no reason to screenshot, but snapchat told me he did anyway.

So it could be it was a fluke, but if it was something sexy he's probably lying.

My sister told me if you screenshot in airplane mode that it doesn't alert. Haven't tested it out.

if the picture was of something he wanted to screenshot (which, if you're asking, i assume it was), it's extremely likely he screenshotted it.

OP here, more info:

I didn't see any "Guy took a screenshot of the chat!" message INSIDE the chat. Usually, it appears.

I myself had taken a screenshot of the same chat in the morning of that day, but I don't see how that's important.
