I need help, /adv/ I feel like a good chunk of my life is dominated

push through it, that's it. i'm sure have heard that a bunch of times already, but there aren't many ways to reason yourself out of fears like that. just push through it, and you may be surprised by what you find. if doesn't work out, whatever. zero repercussions

take small easy steps against your own fears. I would really start off with the music thing. If you dont like stuff thats completely fine, not everything is made to be enjoyed by you and different people have different tastes.

You also being afraid of not understanding something is a fundamental mistake. Understanding that youre not understanding something is the first step in personal growth, as it gives you a clear goal to achieve, if you so set out to reach it.

Try to ask yourself "What's the worst that could happen?" We often have ideas that events will have much bigger impacts on our lives than they actually do. A test in college might feel like the most stressful thing you've ever dealt with, but then not even a month later it's like "what test?"

Also, try to think of the kind of person you want to be. Do you want to be the kind of person who lets fear control their life, or do you want to be the kind of person who accepts their fear but does it anyways? Any time you do something and you feel fear and you want to back out, ask yourself if that would be acting like the kind of person you want to be

Same here. I'm afraid to use new technology (waited until 2015 until finally buying my first smartphone), I'm afraid to try new video games so I play ones I played back in 2008, I watch one anime per season at most even though I like anime... All because I'm afraid I won't like the thing in question. Why does that even cause me any amount of fear? If I don't like something after trying it out all that would happen is me brushing it off and doing something else. Yet still I don't want to try it. This whole thing makes no sense.

Every success story starts with someone trying to achieve something. If you don't even try you can't ever hope to succeed. Think about your life years down the line, when all you'll have is regret that you didn't take the steps to change your life for the better when you were still young and had the chance.
