Is running in place a good substitute for actually running?
I'm too nervous to go for runs outside and I dont have money for a treadmill.
You probably don't have the proper shoes for running distance outdoors anyway. Jumping jacks are good, burpees, anything bodyweight is also good like pullups, sit-ups, bench dips, yoga ball squats (yoga ball is $5). You can buy some of those little hand weights and hold them while you do squats. Check /fit/ for more hotel room cardio.

I teach nurses, and they're hard workers and self-motivated. If you find one, make sure she does more than work and sleep though. They tend to be workaholics.
