Anyone /g/ here?
I want to upgrade my computer, and my budget is around 1000 USD.
The problem is that i'm honestly not sure what to replace, considering how some parts are from early 2013 and some are more recent, because i'm too retarded to save up and upgrade the entire thing and will probably make the same, retarded mistake here.

I'm currently running a rig with these specs:
ASUS P8Z77-LX2 motherboard
i7 3770 3.5 GHz CPU
ASUS 780 Ti GPU
16GB 2133 MHz DDR3 RAM
Silver Power SP-S850 PSU.

I usually play games like ArmA 3, so I'm honestly wondering if the CPU is way too weak, considering how replacing my 660 Ti with a 780 Ti made no huge FPS difference.
I also play more graphics intensive games like For Honor, Fallout, The Witcher 3 and the EFT alpha (and many more), so I don't want to completely neglect the graphics processing power, unless it'll do for another year and if my CPU is bottlenecking the full potential of my 780 Ti.

You probably already realize that I'm not the most knowledgeable guy around, considering I don't even know if VRAM is just texture and asset storage or actually affects gameplay, nor can I tell which component is bottlenecking.

I'm not fully retarded, so I can easily assemble a computer, I just don't know what would be the best to upgrade.
Maybe I should just save up and get an entirely new computer instead, which is why I've come here, I need your input.

>Anyone /g/ here?
...why would you not just ask /g/?

Why do you want to upgrade your computer? Are you wanting to do VR? Are games lagging for you? Striving for 4K gaming?

I mean, I bought my computer's parts for ~$400 total. Not a god machine but hey it gets the job done well. Can run most modern games at 1080p 50 to 60FPS. If it's not broken, don't fix it hahaha

I'm in the same spot, OP. I'm going to upgrade my computer this summer hopefully...I built mine around the same time you built yours.

I'm planning on just getting a new motherboard, processor, graphics card, and PSU (I cheaped out the first time). Remember the RAM and the OS too.

The monitors, tower, speakers, keyboard, etc will all stay the same to save money. If I have any leftover I may get a new tower because I bought one of those 14 year old boy badass towers and I wish I had gotten something more grown up.

I'm running a 144Hz monitor, and I'm lagging/barely getting 60FPS on certain games. I kinda wanna upgrade because of just how powerful i've heard the 1080 Ti is, and because of how outdated my CPU/motherboard is becoming. My 780 Ti isn't exactly new either.

are you saying you can't play those games on your current pc? bc I can not imagine that.

anyway, gpu is super duper important for gaming. I'm not a hardware specialist but I can't imagine the cpu is too slow for anything gaming related

I see. I've already got a Win7 disc i'm going to use, because honestly, fuck Win8 and Win10. They both look like shit and come with features you really don't need, and just generally get in the way. Learning to navigate files again won't be worth the extra 3-4 FPS im probably going to get desu.

>>18159745
I can, I just don't get the performance I want on them, considering I have a 1080p screen with 144 Hz. I just can't handle 60 FPS anymore for some reason.

Guide to upgrade:
1. Does my game i want to play runs good enough?
>yes no upgrade

2. Buy new graphic card. Currently i suggest you
geforce1060 / RX480 if poor
geforce1070 if not that poor
or you can go full retard and buy better
3. Does my game runs good enough now?
>yes stop buying other stuff
4. Figure out if anybody in the world can even play that game without problems
>yes, only me has problems
5. Buy new mobo, cpu and ram.

Since you have i7 and ddr3, you can buy new cpu and ddr4 and see 5% increase in performance of gaming terms. Yes the technology slowed down a lot.

Just get new GPU and be happy.

Your computer specs sound quite fine to me. I can run games with High-Ultra High settings with my old Clevo laptop from 2011, which has considerably crappier graphics card than your computer has.

You might have too many unnecessary background processes going on. You can disable those you won't need by running services.msc, or use a program like Game Booster or Razer Cortex to shut them down temporarily while playing.

Also make sure your graphics driver is up to date!

On my tower PC I have my operating system on SSD and keep games on HDD.

The thing is that I play a lot of CPU intensive games. I'm just worried about the bottleneck. Had it not been for that I would already had bought a 1080 Ti.

>>18159820
Your resolution has to be considerably low though, I don't think a PC from 2011 would run any game nowadays on Ultra settings with 1080P and get solid 60 FPS.

I've looked into getting an SSD to boost my load times actually, textures render a bit slower. You can literally see how the textures get more clearer, although that isn't exactly a long process or something i'm bothered by.

Question, can you keep the OS in an SSD in a PCI slot? Or do I have to use SATA cables (and buy an SSD with SATA slots?)

I've already disabled most of the unnecessary background processes, thanks for the advice though.

Go see benchmarks of games. The gpu power is like 4x more power than your gpu. In cpu? Almost 0 difference in games.

And about arma. It is one of these games which runs badly on almost all hardware. And please dont buy the most expensive gpu unless you swim in money. It is never worth it.
