I work at a hospital. I want to ask the number of this one attractive nurse that I see occasionally. However, she works at a different department than I. What would be the best way to do this when I see her which she is working?
I was thinking was that I would purposely drop my pen and she would pick it up for me and a conversation would start there.

Can you talk to some nurse that works with her? The closest person possible to her. Then ask this person about the nurse. Just basic stuff. Who is she, etc. "Hey who's that girl/woman youre working with", "What who? You mean Stacy?". Shit like that
Now, what's the point, you ask? That person will surely tell the nurse about this exchange if possible. Next time you see the nurse she might look at you a certain way, and there would be your chance to go in for the kill.
