How to be funny?

One thing I've noticed is that certain people in social environments are always the first to think of a witty response and get people laughing.

Sometimes I'll be able to do this, but I'd like to sharpen my humour and make it quicker.

Are there any ways to make yourself funnier and/or more quick-witted?

you could try watching stand up comedy, as well as thinking of jokes ahead of time for common situations.
>>
Look for improv groups. People who literally get together and practice being spontaneously funny. It's a real thing.

Know things. Current events, historical figures, trivia. The more you know the more you can see comedy in and the larger your resource for witticism.

I've heard this really does help people think faster. I personally do not have the balls to ever consider this, but this is probably the best advice, OP.

OP here, I'm introverted as fuck and have a massive phobia of public speaking but if I could overcome it I'm sure improv clubs would be amazing.

You can probably find an amateur group that gets together and practices without actually performing anywhere.

Wrestle with fear. Think about the worst things to you, the things that scare you the most, go OUT of your mental boundaries and think about someone tying you up and fucking your girlfriend in front of you, then coming to you and cutting your skin open and playing with your blood vains while you are helplessly dying, just watching the guys of your body being pulled out and played with.

That is just an example but fave whatever makes you experience FEAR the most, then wrestle with it in your mind. Do it a little every day and you'll be hilarious in no time.

Remember that the emotion that you have to grapple with is fear, not anger, hate, or sadness. The psycological reasons behind this are too hard to explain here And even if I did, some aspie would probably go apeshit on me.

You're welcome.

Humour is time and tragedy

>tfw considered to be "one of the funniest people I know" by many people
>tfw have noticed strangers laughing at the stuff I've been saying/doing
>tfw have gotten free drinks at bars because they think I'm hilarious

But I'm honestly not too sure how I do it. Many people don't think I save a filter but I do it, I just don't really give a shit so I say whatever. I try be observational and slightly controversial. Don't be edgy, but don't be afraid to disagree with everyone else.

But I really don't know. I didn't even consider myself to be funny before but according to a lot of people, I am.

By being socialised.
It's like chatting up women, if you have never approached any, you never improve.
If you have never tried being funny, you will carry on being unfunny.

Your best case scenario is ripping off lines from comedians, hoping they fit into the context of the conversation and hoping that nobody recognises them.

You, my friend, have low expectations.
Comedy is a skill that can be practiced and learned. Ripping of other people's jokes will not make you funny. It'll make you someone who rips off other people's jokes.

I guess the question is how?

Like, you can get stronger by lifting weights. How do you get funnier?

There have been several suggestions put forward in this thread already. Watching people who are good at it and analysing what they do (NOT just ripping off their jokes). Practicing with an improv team. Expanding your general knowledge. And (I'm putting this out there) losing your fear of embarrassment. Because if you can't tolerate making missteps in front of other people, you'll never practice enough to hone the skill.

This is probably why you're not funny in public. No one that uncomfortable will be relaxed enough to be witty.

Work on the social anxiety first homes.
>>
Be so miserable that you reflexively deflect any vaguely uncomfortable emotion with humor.
