I just found out I'm being laid off... after I train my replacement and they have no positions for me, yet they're hiring 2 other people for other roles.

Not sure what to do. I'm their current acting IT manager... its a family company that has gone through like 5 CEO's since I started in 2015.

They saw my talent and moved me to an IT role. I was told I'd get a raise... I was told I'd get proper training. Instead I've watched others around me quit including the IT Manager after he showed me some basic things he'd do. Before that I even helped one of my friends get a job, my old job in the company.

Now I'm lost. It just killed my drive. i was pushing like 45-50 hours a week doing support stuff and handing stuff off to an IT Support firm for anything that required escalation as I was trained. I'm just not sure what to do.

Anyone ever encountered a situation like this? This is my 2nd time being laid off in my life.

Take your severance package (if you get one) and start looking for other jobs. Thankfully you're in I.T. and held a management position, you shouldn't have too much difficulty finding another job.

I was only IT Manager in TASKS, my official position was IT Specialist. My IT Manager had quit and I was just doing what needed to be done including roll-out of a new phone system/internet. :/ I'm still a clueless heap because I was supposed to be trained by them on their dime.

Probably because I actually am needed? I'm honestly baffled why they're even laying me off. Probably trying to be cheap. They screwed everyone out of bonuses last year and claimed it was for a new review/reward system. They've gone through 4 CEO's in 2 years.


I'm pissed because we just bought a house recently, My family's future is at stake.

Do a shit job at training your replacement. Them laying you off and having you train your replacement is a stupid move on their part. I'd definitely look into unemployment benefits because this sounds shady as fuck. Generally when you lay someone off you don't replace them with someone else.

Sounds like they are using the term layoff instead of firing you, probably because they don't have a good reason to fire you. Maybe your replacement will do the same work for cheaper and this is them trying to get around you getting unemployment benefits.

This company you work for sounds like it won't be around for much longer anyways.

Yeah I talked to one of the executives today. They apparently got some massive issues with costs that... i Warned them about when their safety standards dropped for the subcontracts they make. Full circle I guess.

Honestly, I have no idea, nothing they do right now makes sense. 5 CEO's...

I told My old boss who put me in the IT position about it (hes at a competitor a few states away now). He has been sending me some local job leads which I'm going to look into tonight when I have some free time. (stupid resume retools take forever.)
