>if i can't get something right the first time, I give up
>even if it's something like playing guitar or practicing coding, if I don't understand it or can't do it, I give up and I never come back to it
How do I stop this? I've been like this my entire life and have nothing to show for it.
I am the same way. What I find is that, if you experience diminishing returns from something, our interest in it gradually dwindles to zero. This is a real statistical phenomenon. To overcome it, the only method is to force yourself to keep doing it.
If you are not naturally good with motor skills and take up juggling, you stop because the balls keep falling. If you wait a while instead of burning yourself out OR losing faith immediately, you have a better chance of improving.
When you think of things you don't know how to do, immediately ask yourself "Well, now I can only improve, since I understand how I fucked up."

take a class. cuz the class is set up for you to understand exactly what you need to on day 1, instead of the entire concept.
