How do i stop procrastinating? Im a student that's pretty smart and has supportive parents. Im just extremely apathetic when it comes to doing homework and projects. I usually wait till the last minuet or dont do it at all till i get chewed out. When i try to do the work i cant focus for the life of me. I feel like i have ADD. How do i fix this?

Why do you think you're pretty smart
>>

Because generally i can get good grades when i do the work.

I'm in the same boat. It's tough for sure. There are things you can do to make it a bit easier on you're self, though the want to procrastinate never really fully goes away. A good book you could try is "The Straight A Student". Helped me a bit.

The hardest part is creating routines and habits. A lot of the organized people you see have had organizational and work-related habits engrained in their day-to-day activity since they were in middle school.

Getting into habits also requires breaking old, unhealthy habits. That's usually what stops most people, me included.

Eventually though, once you're I'm the groove, it'll be way easier to maintain. Start setting dates and times on your phone, and make sure you get the alerts for them. I still struggle with doing this because historically, I wing things constantly. However I'm hoping this so change because I've started the gym regularly and I'm trying to apply this motivation to other aspects of my life.

Designate chunks of time for homework or study on your phone calendar. On Google calendar at least, I know there's option to repeat an event over and over again on a customized schedule, so you can do something like [homework for x class] Monday & Tuesday every week at 5-6pm. There should be some functionality like that on ios too though.

Good luck anon.

Save the last dance for me.

Realize success and respect from other people comes from demonstrating your ability to understand. If someone looks at your transcripts and sees c's and d's, it means one of two things.

A. You aren't that bright and probably shouldn't be trusted with anything too important, because you probably won't fully understand.
B. Similar to A, you seem kind of lazy and probably half way to simplearn tasks.

So think of how the impression of what you are doing looks to other people.

Aha, I'm on the same boat right now. I used to be getting 90's in most of my classes until this year when I had a really rough start that has put me off course for the rest of the year. It's just suuuper hard to break bad habits that I've developed (i'm procrastinating on this project that was due like 3 days ago as i write) But it's super annoying because I know that if I just put in the time into catching up, I could easily save my grade.

I'd say just take small steps. When you get a new assignment or a few, try to space them out over a long period of time if you have trouble concentrating. Just say, I'm going to work on this project for X amount of time today and no more. It can feel overwhelming and unmotivating to approach a task feeling like it's going to take a really long time to complete the project in its entirety. If you do the work over time in smaller intervals, it will help you develop better work habits and also make you used to doing school work consistently.

Also, remember to take things slowly. Habits aren't formed overnight, it will take some time and effort to condition yourself into having better ones :)

I hope this advice helped, and good luck. Hopefully I'll be able to follow my own advice too >.<

Dont try to make an excuse claiming its ADD. procrastination is genetic. Look it up. Its just in your blood and there are ways to combat it but you have to practice.

My 40 year old math professor procrastinates all the time. Im his assistant and he puts work off all the time. He always gives me work to do at last minute rather than give it to me early to grade or review. Even adults procrastinate. Its normal

It's even worse, when you are getting good grades, because you know, that you won't fail. What did really helped me is gym. It was ultra hard to start, but when it got into routine with all the healthy eating, procrastination just faded.
