Hey guys, I just need a little feedback on a small project I'm working on.
So, if you can pretend that you've never seen the movie Drive, and you watch this trailer, what kind of genre would you think this movie is?
Would this trailer interest you in watching the movie? Does this trailer even seem coherent?
Sorry about my blog, but I just need a little feedback and have nowhere else to post this webm.

What project, anon?
Neo-noir.
Yes it would.
Yes.

Thanks for the feedback anon.
Basically, we need to choose out of a couple options (first couple pages of a novel, photograph essay, movie posters) and make something that fits into the horror genre. I chose to make a 1-2 minute film trailer out of a preexisting film.
Basically I'm trying to find the right movie that's not already a horror movie, and make a trailer out of it to make it look like a horror movie.

I think it's the music that makes it not very horr-y(?) It builds suspense, but it sounds more like a prelude to kickassery instead of murder vibes you were going for.
Drive did have a great soundtrack though, and that one is no exception.

Yeah that makes sense. I'm trying to find some music that isn't a cliche for horror trailers, and thought maybe something from the movie's soundtrack would work.

Are you a film student like me? I'd say the visual sequence of it works really well, as you are only suggesting what The Driver's actions will be, especially with the hammer, creepy facemask, and headlights. Where it fall flat for horror is in the music. Change it to something like one of the tracks on this playlist:

I recommend you read up on the psychology of music in film, and how cognitive dissonance helps to make people uneasy. This guy makes some interesting videos on it that could be helpful

and then there's this, to drive home the point:

Yep, just started my first year haha.
At least I know the visual aspect is good, it's just the audio I gotta work on. Thanks for the links anon, I really appreciate it!
Do you think adding a song with vocals on it would be a bad idea? I just tried out the song "In Heaven" from Eraserhead and the timing matches almost perfectly with the trailer's time.

Awesome, I'm in my second semester of my first year so not much more than you lol.
I like this track a lot better. The organ in the background definitely helps with the creepiness of it, and the lyrics work because they increase the cognitive dissonance between the message of the music and the visuals, which makes people uneasy.
One more critique: Switch the last two scenes around. This will have The Driver staring out of the car and then showing the headlights turning on, leaving the audience with the strong implication that Nino is about to get his shit wrecked. This is why so many horror film trailers end this way, because it ominously implies something terrible is about to happen. If you want to keep that pink DRIVE titlecard in there, I'd suggest cutting to black after the headlights turning on, and just overlaying it on black, or place it on one of the casual dashcam-style Driver POV shots.

Thanks again anon!
I switched the two scenes around, and I reckon it already looks much better. I'll try it out with the the DRIVE title card cut out from the scene and added at the very end with a different background, but that'll take a little bit of time before I can post it in this thread.
