My boss will fire me if I go to an interview in California, he knows I'm looking for a new job but needs me.
I passed an interview with a startup recruiting firm that only accepts %2 of software engineers.
How much should I trust them in thinking I am hirable? I don't want to be unemployed if I take the risk and am actually stupid.
tl;dr go to interview but get fired from current job?
is it legal to fire someone for looking for a new job? Geez
Prepare well for your interview and take it. Hes a shitty boss if he doesnt want you to grow.

i mean if you're REALLY looking to get out, getting fired isn't the worst thing that can happen.
and if he REALLY nees you, chances are hes going to /not/ fire you, because he'll need you to do your job until soemone else takes over regardless.

call his bluff.
I mean you want to quit anyways, so being fired, even if a bit early, is not a bad thing.
tell him you're going to california for the interview, and he can either work with you until you're ready to leave, or shoot himself in the foot by firing you without any chance to find a replacement for himself.

I think I might do this
Thanks everyone
Why would he fire you if he needs you? Sounds like a bluff
