What is the optimal way to lose your virginity? I don't want to regret losing my virginity to the wrong person or at the wrong time/place.
I've been advised before to get a trusted friend to do it for me. Is that something I should seriously consider? How do you even break the ice to ask for such a favour?
I'll wait until I'm in a serious relationship if I can but given my situation that might never happen.
Disclaimer: I know it's not a race and I'm trying to be careful, but I'm in my late twenties and don't want to wait until I'm 40 or 50.

My honest advice would be to hire a prostitute. Take a trip to a place where it's legal and get it legitimately to avoid any moral quandaries.

If I wait until marriage I'll have no regrets but it will also reduce my chances of ever marrying or losing my virginity.
