That's when I have a problem. We have many successful people in the class. I don't feel a need to get angry at them for it because they fucking earned it. They don't cheat their way through exams. When applying for a job, they don't skimp out on the work, etc

Ok dude I appreciate your work ethic here, but reality is going to suck for you once you start working and realise that people like this quickly climb to the top and then laugh at people like you with the bosses.

Half of workplace success is basically getting somebody else to do the work and then taking credit for it. Your boss doesn't care as long as the work is being done and you are more likely to get constructive criticism than genuine thanks or help. I've often found bosses don't respect what they can get for free (hard work, commitment) unless they need it (you are vital) in which case they begin to resent the fact that you have power because it is leverage against them and they will work over time to undermine this. It is very rare that a boss will bring staff up through the business with them rewarding them for their hard work and effort, more often you are replaced with a machine or somebody else who hasn't yet seen how it really works.

Meanwhile guys like your guy have been having fun and earning more money and generally enjoying doing nearly no work while soaking up your impotent tears of rage as you bust ass for a prize that doesn't actually exist.
