I can't stand it anymore, I have severe OCD and anxiety

I can't stand it anymore, I have severe OCD and anxiety that has gone untreated for years since my teens.
I finally worked up the courage to go to the doctors last week where the doctor suggested to me anti depressants, my family are very strongly anti medication when it comes to shit like this.
The doctor also referred me to some mental health place for CBT but its been over a week now and nothing has come through and my symptoms are increasingly getting worse and worse. I have another appointment in a weeks time, should I take the meds or not? The side effects scare the fuck out of me. Please help me, thank you.
