Have any of my fellow NEETs had success with mTurk? (Amazon Mechanical Turk)?

I just applied for it. This is exactly what I need to build a gaming rig if I go ham on it for half a year or so.

Tell me about your experience with it, please.
>>
>>18072969
It's a way for companies to pay less than minimum wage. I seriously hope this post is joking.
>>
Waste of your time, get a real job
>>
>>18072970
How is it joking? It's perfect for someone with no real qualifications or ability to get an actual job.
>>
I tried it once, it's a lot of work for pennies.
>>
It's easier doing manual labor with Mexicans for less than half of a year.
>>
>you don't even get payed real money
>you get payed Amazon Play Money that can only be used on Amazon
>getting payed hundreds of times less than minimum wage for work that would, in a real job, pay over minimum wage

This shit should be outlawed
>>
>>18072969
why not just work for amazon in the warehouse area? they're always hiring and you don't have to do an interview. all I had to do was drug test, orientation, and then was right off to work with a starting pay of $13. it is boring work tho until you move out of the picker/packing/stocking/counting positions.
>>
>>18072976
>it is boring work
this is what I want
this is what I fucking need
>>
>>18072969
If you just leap in and start working you're going to earn absolute shit money and end up completely miserable. You really need to find one of the communities dedicated to mturk (not the reddit one, that one is a cesspool of mediocrity) and read their guides.

That's assuming you get accepted. For for the last year or so Amazon has been mass rejecting new mturk applications for no discernible reason.
>>
>>18072969
>work my ass off for maybe a $1 an hour
Yeah, no

Try working for one of the food delivery apps. Only accept deliveries within walking/biking distance. I averaged about $10 for every hour worked and you don't have to do anything aside from awkwardly hand food over. Everything is prepaid.
>>
>>18072972
>>18072976
you don't need any qualifications or experience, when I applied I didn't even fill out the work history part of the app. They'll take anybody since there's always a huge turn over rate. Also you work 4 days on 3 days off with optional OT until it's mandatory around holidays. Great benefits too.
>>
I think my internet and electric bill alone is more than that shit can afford.
>>
>>18072980
closest warehouse is 28.4 miles away, and I do not have a vehicle.
>>
>>18072969
Never heard of it.

I just had a quick look and I have to agree with the people in this thread, in that the rates are ridiculously low.
>>
>>18072969

Amazon Mechanical Cockroach?
>>
>>18072982
that sucks as it's a great starting job since you work 10 hour days. when I applied to at&t for a premises technician job was pretty much a shoe in with the work history at amazon.
>>
>>18072976

can you listen to music on headphones while you work?
>>
>>18072975
This desu. It's orders of magnitudes worse than even the shittiest IRL job.
>>
>>18072986
nope thats one of the reasons I found the job extremely boring starting out as a picker. you have to leave your phone in a locker at the front of the building or out in your car. they have metal detectors you have to pass through entering/exiting the building.
>>
>>18072986
>>18072988
I worked at one for a few months and they had the metal detector but it was never on. I saw people listening to music in there sometimes.
>>
>>18072988

damn thats a deal breaker for a job that tedious
>>
>>18072969
it gets worse each year and you can be banned for no reason
look for scripts that search for new jobs from highly rated requesters, and then get ready to compete to be the fastest clicker to nab the job before other people do
you also need to be on the same kind of sleep schedule as a normal worker if you want $50 a day, because nothing interesting gets posted in off hours
basically the stuff that you see that is $0.02 and 30000 tasks available, that's not what you do to make money, that's just what you do to pad your completed tasks number to unlock more work

but really you shouldn't
just apply to be customer/account/technical service for a company where you can work from home
it will pay tons more, and be less pressure because it's only a few hours of the day instead of the entire day refreshing

>>18072975
amazon payments money is the same as paypal money, it can be sent into a linked bank account
>>
>>18072989
yeah I'm not sure about other places. I worked at the one in the Fort Worth area which they described as being one of amazons major warehouses. Probably was more strict with their security and rules. I think it was one of the first warehouses that introduced the kiva robots as well.
>>
>>18072992
Yeah I was at a recently opened sorting center outside of Boston, so they might have been a little more lax.
>>
>>18072977
Why? Boring work is soul-sucking. You want something that will keep you engaged throughout the day so you don't even notice the time passing.
>>
>>18072969
I did it for a few months a few years ago. Made less than minimum wage. But I got a lot of jobs flaging porn on image hosting services so it was easy. I did it in a public library.... Yea, so I was that guy. Luckily I never got in trouble.

Damn it sucks to be poor.
>>
>>18072990
yeah it was suffering but once your 90 days are up they start training you in other positions like counting or stocking. They're equally as boring but you can always ask your manager to switch you every other day.

it's pretty easy to move up in the warehouse area as they're always expanding. the most comfy job I had there was problem solver, I just strolled around with a laptop watching youtube until someone had a problem or I had to scan dirty bins.
>>
Does anyone know a good place making above 17 an hour in the bay area California? Or a online job where I can make more money than that?
>>
>>18072969
I made $10 by spending about 3 hours a day clicking on pictures for a month. get a job at taco bell or the local grocery store for a better income.
>>
>>18072997
>making more than 14/hr without any skills or connections

motherfucker go to school or something
>>
they pay you like 4 cents per job and it's a tedious process to even get started, let alone paid
>>
MTurk pay is shit. You work endlessly for pennies. If you can get in, do Leapforce instead.

https://www.leapforceathome.com/qrp/public/home

Leapforce, when I worked there, started at $13.50/hr. You work as an independent contractor from home, so you set your own hours and do whatever you want. I used to just fap or watch movies/shows the whole time I was working.

Tried it out last month.

>Process
Takes a few days to get it started. They have to check information with your SS and what not. I had to come up with "proof of residency" which I just forged because I didn't have anything on hand. Took about two weeks to sign up and get access and all that.

>Work
It's not that bad. The people trying to sell it off as worse than your average min wage job are wrong. You don't have to deal with people, you can listen to music and watch stuff while you work. If you aren't doing ANYTHING else it's worth looking into. There is a learning curve to it, but once you get into the flow of finding good stuff to work on and using all the tools (turkopticon, hitscrapper, etc). However there is a barrier to entry on the better work, you HAVE to start out doing shittier low paying crap to build up a good percentage and number of hits complete. You also need to be on the hunt for qualifications so you can do even more exclusive stuff.

>Pay
It sucks. Like I said you have to start out doing very low paying stuff to get started. The good thing is you can find mindless numbers hits and knock out a hundred or so in an hour if you're fast. I only did it for a few days before I got bored, and my pay ranged anywhere from $15 to $1 an hour. It takes a few days for it to get approved but most people do (even though I bullshited 90% of my work). Amazon Payments lets you transfer to your bank for no fee (if you're US). You can make more than min wage after you get established, it's just not going to be consistent.

If you are looking for something to do while you game or w/e in your downtime it's not a bad idea. You can make a good chunk of change for very little effort. However, if you're looking to "go ham" just get a real job. It's guaranteed AND you're building a work history which is worth so much more than what you will make on mturk. The only reason to use mturk is if your social anxiety/depression/whatever is so crippling you can't handle a real job
>>
>>18072969
Honestly If you're NEET or a college student with a couple hours to burn every once in a while it's decent.

I did it for about 4 months and I got ~$800. That's working about 2 hrs a day 5 days a week. Pay I used to average around $5/hr. Some days I'd make 20 or 30 in 45 min, some days less than $2 for the 2 hours. The more experience you have the better hits the more you're paid.

But really a minimum wage job is better if you can find one.
>>
>>18072976
I knew a guy who worked as a picker there. Basically said he had to walk around picking stuff for 12 hours. Fuck that.
>>
>>18072977
You really don't. I thought I was having a bad time working at Sams Club but as soon as I left there for another """easier""" job I quickly realized that I made a mistake. I typically worked 30 hours at sams 6 hours a day. Those 6 hours flashed by. However my new job I only work maybe 14 hours but those 14 hours go by SLOW AS FUCK. I am either standing at the cash register for 6 hours or literally walking around a small store zoning nothing for 6 hours.

I worked as a picker after they had already installed the KIVA robots. Instead of walking you stand in one place and let the robots bring the items to you. You'll have a screen show you what the item looks like and what bin it's in, all you have to do is pick it then put it into a tote that the screen tells you to.

It's more efficient but instead of getting to walk around for 10 hours you're stuck standing in the same spot with just the sound of machines to keep you company. It's not the hardest work but it's mind-numbing boring work. It's a good first job if you don't have any experience as it gives damn good benefits with their in house network option. It also doesn't take much to move up and get into the more computer oriented positions if you can stick with it for 3-6 months. Once you do you basically get paid to sit on a laptop.
