In my experience, friends who've been in the same position just talked to the professor. If you show extra effort for the rest of the course, show up prepared and volunteer frequently, and go to office hours, they will pass you unless you are a total fuck up on your graded assignments.

Employers and graduate schools that ask for transcripts will see them and may ask you why you got it. If this is your first one I can almost guarantee it'll be better than failing.
