anyone who says they go on reddit but not 4chan is probably full of shit.

and the only reason to TRULY be embarrassed about being on here is if you put any value on anything here from strangers beyond what it actually deserves.

Reddit, Tumblr, 9gag or whatever would be just as bad if you felt ashamed of spending too much time here/there. I'd advise against visiting/r9k/ too often.

Before 4chan it actually was tumblr and a kanye west fansite forumn for a short amount of time. and when i was really young i was obsessed with runescape, youtube and this fourmn for pet hamsters. i have been apart of many active internet forums since i was 12

i attempted to get hobby i started playing guitar but am rarely in the mood to learn it. my social life is decent enough but i don't actually have any friends i text frequently anymore.
i still manage to go out every other week just because of a school club I'm in.

but i can not think of anything else i would rather do in my free other than be on my computer. a lot of the time isn't even spent shitposting it's just lurking and scrolling through bullshit but it still what i choose to do over anything else.

What /adv/ice are you even asking about? This is fucking advice, not strawpoll dawg. You want advice? Why are you even embarrassed about this, you are at a college find some friends that actually share your interests maybe since your interests obviously include 4chan now?

Creation is an inherently embarrassing endeavor, you are creating a new you and you don't even realize it, save for worrying that the new you won't be as well liked as the you who acknowledges the 4chan part of himself.

Based on the amount of posts I see being made, I think the amount of visitors this site gets is vastly overestimated, unless there's a huge shitton of lurkers.

I mean, globally, it's probably like a few tens of thousands of people who post once a week or more. And that already feels like an overestimation, yet it's way less than on e.g. reddit (i think pcmr alone has more concurrent users than 4chan). Going from this, meeting someone in real life who visits this site is extremely unlikely.

4chan is no longer the outcast place it once was anon. Since a little while before you started browsing here it's become much more well-known and is sort of like a modern day usenet but not as large scale (though it might be the closest thing to it).

/adv/ is actually a good example of a more general purpose board (unlike ones just pertaining to Jap pop culture or video games) that more general internet users find themselves coming to because the sheer volume of users coming to this site now makes it genuinely more useful. Don't you remember when memes and shit used to only crop up on certain special interest internet forums and maybe google image search, then around the turn of the decade the Facebook crowd started adopting all that crap and making their own imitations? Haven't you noticed that there are about 1000 times more "meme generator" websites than there used to be? this shit just kinda got mainstream at some point. there really isn't anything to be ashamed of as long as you keep it out of IRL situations (e.g. the "it's a meme you dip" kid)

23 been here since i was 15. although i've moved on to other image boards and communities i check back from time to time.

I can definitely tell you that coming to this site has a huge effect on how you live your life, how you think about life, and how you think about people in general.

This site is no joke not good for your health, especially if you frequent the filth of the filth porn boards and the hate-mongering cesspools of /pol/ /int/ /v/ /tv/...there's just a very negative vibe that pervades everything. In almost every thread people are being unnecessarily rude to each other, telling each other to kill themselves over petty squabbles, you think you're numb to it but on a sub-conscious level you aren't. You wouldn't tell someone you didn't know to kill themselves cause they liked something you didn't in real life, but online you would.

Try going a week without coming on here, and report back how you feel.

really though, this site is a bunch of negativity. it took me a long time to realize that it was probably having a negative impact on my mental state. I've only just started by completely cutting out /v/ but soon I'll just go on a full break. a lot of the slower boards are actually much friendlier than the popular meme boards but I won't be visiting to those until I've weaned off the site entirely.
