Hey you. Get a job.

I feel like so many of the guys (males) posting here overlook this one basic thing when they start whining or asking advice about why their lives are miserable. It feels like I'm walking into /r9k/ way too often.
Getting a job (even one that you think is "shitty") will give you two crucial things that you need in order to try and make something for yourself. The first one is the feeling of worth, that you are contributing and not just a parasite, and the second one is money! Money isn't evil, it can solve so many issues for you. You really need it. You need it even if it's just to keep in a bank so you feel less worried about your future.
So go find a job. Ask a friend or relative to get you one if you can't even get past the resume screening into an interview. Because you are deluding yourself if you think you are free to do what you want if you don't have a job. You limit yourself severely by not working and having money to spend.
>>
That's fair.

I'm just a bit sour about my first job experience.

Racist comments, discrimination, poor ethics, dealing with shit people, flaky coworkers...
Ended up getting fired because I was 3 minutes late.

Doesn't help that I don't even have my highschool diploma. Makes you feel like trash, and in the eyes of a lot of people, you are.
>>
>>18062904

The quality of coworkers is very important for job satisfaction to a lot of people. The good news is you can find nice coworkers in low paying jobs just as you can find shitty ones in high paid offices. Just gotta try again I guess, you're probably better off not working in that place.
>>
Hey mate, I have a job.

No, it doesn't feel like I'm contributing. Yes, what I am doing is a highly skilled job that I educated myself my whole life for but that doesn't change anything. Is the fact I'm paying taxes or fixing issues absolute retards have supposed to make me feel good? Because it doesn't. I want to be home, in my nice sunny country, enjoying the sun, fucking jailbait (legal) and talking to me friends. I can't do what makes me happy though, I'm too busy "contributing" to a country that doesn't even want me here.

Now for your second point, why yes, yes, the money is quite good, until you realize you have to keep working to have it. Sure they might have seemed an enormous amount in the beginning but boy did I start spending and making direct debits and subscriptions for this and that and I can't really back down on that can I? So yes, the money is good, damn shame I don't get to keep it, damner shame I have to keep going to work for it.

You're right though, it would help not being less worried about my future but right now I'm worried about my present. I'm stressed, unhappy, working a job that will advance me in my career but not as a person, lonely, alone, tired and grumpy with rapidly diminishing social skills and atrophying human connections.

But hey, at least I have a FUCKING JOB, right?
>>
>>18062904
I've had co-workers like you. How many times were you 3 minutes late? And I found they cried racism every time someone tried to call them out on their shit. Might be different in your case but in mine it wasn't racism, it was a complete retard being oblivious to all the things he's supposed to be doing and complaining every time somebody pointed it out because in his mind he's doing "a lot".

Just saying.
>>
>>18062937
Shit, are you me?
It's almost like I'm speaking to a mirror, but the mirror is taking my words as I only witness it speak.
>>
>>18062904
>Ended up getting fired because I was 3 minutes late.

That means they were never interested in keeping you as a long term worker. On the bright side, it's better that they fired you or else you might eventually end up losing your sanity.

>>18062917

This.
>>
>>18062937
>But hey, at least I have a FUCKING JOB, right?

Yes you dimwit. Especially if it's a well paid one.
Also maybe it's time you start cutting your expenses towards thing that make you feel like shit. Like watching endless TV shows/porn etc and spend it towards something that will have you mingle with people and activate your social life.
>>
you're contributing something, yes, but what good is contribution if you don't have something to live for?
money is a means to an end, what good is it if you don't have an end goal?
you'll just be sat in between not having the balls to off yourself and struggling to find meaning and end up ticking along waiting to die
>>
>>18062937
>But hey, at least I have a FUCKING JOB, right?

Yes, it's still infinitely better than being a NEET.

Any tips for interviews?

I'm responding to several job postings in IT industry, I'm a student with no experience though and I can only work part-time. I don't know what my chances are but lots of friends found work in a similar situation. I'm just scared I'll spill spaghetti on the interview, I get really anxious speaking with strangers.
>>
>>18062937
I bet you studied whatever you studied because you were enticed by money and job opportunities, right?
>>
>>18062960
>money is a means to an end, what good is it if you don't have an end goal?

Do you think the people that you consider happy and successful have clearly defined end goals? They just push themselves every day in whatever field they chose for themselves. The people that have achieved the most probably struggled the most as well. I think struggling is a good sign, it means something is happening and your moving in a direction. When you stall you become apathetic and depressed.
>>
>>18062964
They expect you to be nervous in interviews. The key is to not be so nervous that you're not articulate.

Also don't underestimate the value of preparing for the interview: prepare talking about your work experience to date, answers to standard questions, and some questions to ask them.
>>
>>18062964
Look up common interview questions and answer the ones you would least like them to ask. When you feel prepared to face the very worst they can throw at you, you'll be much more confident. That and remember the fact that everyone else in your interview day, group interview, assessment centre is just as nervous as you.

Personally when I practice for interviews, I think up of scenarios I've experienced in the past that could fit into multiple different questions for use with the STAR method. Finally the more interviews you do, the easier they are and boy have I done a lot of them.
>>
>>18062964
The tip is to relax. Never appear desperate and never appear overconfident. Treat the job as something you can live without.
>>
>>18062955
>>18062962
Just let me whine and moan and be unhappy for a post, I'll be fine really.

>>18062964
Just be a person. It's ok if you don't know things, don't try to bullshit and don't try to ask the interviewer to explain it if you have a genuine question on finding out. Also if the interviewer is one of those who talks a lot about the business or is doing that thing where he's teaching you be quiet and listen!!! Let them talk as much as they want but throw in some "aham" "oh yes" "nice".

Other than that, as I said in the beginning, be a person. People want to know you're someone that's not a cunt. Talk and be awkward if you're naturally awkward that's fine, it's normal to have emotions. If you know your technical stuff then you have nothing to worry about.

>>18062965
No, I enjoy what I do very much and I selected my job carefully. It's just the circumstances I am in that I dislike. I feel like I'm not free anymore.

>>18062937
>damn shame I don't get to keep it
besides the taxes, you do get to keep your money. The fact that you're a retard who makes bad decisions with money is your fucking fault. Paying off debt is not someone taking money away from you, it's you paying for the shit you bought.
>>
>>18062897
Not an option for some people.

Social anxiety aside, there are no jobs for young people in my country.
Especially for a loser NEET who's been a shut-in the past few years.

Anime and vidya is the only option.
>>
>>18062972
They're not bad decisions and I don't have debt. Direct debits are set up for my subscriptions to different necessary services or goods. You're a bit rude lad.
>>
>>18062964

Keep your answers short if you're prone to rambling. Research that position ahead of time thoroughly. Ask someone that works in a similar one if you can. It'll make you sound like you know what you're talking about. HR most likely knows less than you about what the job implies. Make it seem like you're explaining the job to them.
Also, have a clear number for the salary you want. When asked just say it directly and be ready to negotiate if a 2nd interview happens.
>>
>>18062974
You're a bit of a cunt for complaining about not getting to keep your money because you spend it all.
>>
>>18062897
I work 50+ hours a week. Most of the overtime is unpaid, and during the weekends i just sit in here because im too tired doing shit.

Im also getting fatter and fatter because i rarely ever cook food and i don't work out anymore. Im 29 years old and have never had a gf.

I feel like im overlooking some basic things in life.
>>
>>18062897
I'm lucky enough to get a 37.5 hour/week full time position. Even with this relatively low amount of hours I feel like I miss out such a large chunk of the week and have so little time to really do what I want. Sometimes I wonder if I'm growing up too fast, not enjoying my (early) 20s.

Or maybe I'm just a huge sook about it.
>>
>>18062984
>37.5 hour/week
>relatively low amount of hours
That's a standard full time job
>>
I don't see a point.

I like seasonal or part time work. But fuck going full career, because that devours your life. I work for money in service of my passions and hobbies, not to work.

That's what bugs me about it. I look into historical context and you used to be able to have a job and a life. Now you live to work and work to live.
>>
>>18062981
Ah, but you don't know the circumstances of said spending or the necessity that said services and goods imply.
>>
>>18062987
I never work overtime besides very rare occasions, while a lot of my mates have to do so (and aren't even compensated for it). I consider myself lucky.

Still I'd rather be working part-time right now because it feels I'm wasting the best part of my life in an office all day
>>
>>18062973

I personally know a guy who has the same mentality. However, he has no excuse. He brought everything onto himself. He was a lazy faggot who never put serious effort in anything except entertainment. He always blamed his issues on other people, never took responsibility for anything, and was always looking for the easy way out yet denying it. He had so many opportunities to change his life but he decided to stay in his comfort zone and continue the pipedream of making money online. He was never interested in making a living. He just wanted to do enough to prove to himself and his parents that he was "trying".
>>
>>18062987
40 hours is standard in most places, lunch exclusive of course. So you spend a total of 9 hours a day at work (thus its never 9-5, but rather 8-5 or 9-6 or shorter depending on how long of a lunch break you take).
>>
>>18062983

If you're getting fatter eat less calories. Simple as that. Skip a few meals and don't eat just cause you're bored.
You don't have to cook or work out, find something that works for you. As an example I buy flash-frozen vegetable-mix bags and a sort of hamburger meat that I can just slap on a grill. Both of these take like 10 minutes to prepare. There's also the option to get whole grain cereal with milk like muesli. Pour it in a bowl and you're done. You can eat decent without it being a chore. Find something that works for you.
As far as having a healthy social life you have to start with something small like making a connection and have it grow over time. But unlike with eating or posting here you do actually have to put some effort into it and get out of your comfort zone.
>>
>>18062943
A few times, I'll admit.

I put everything I had into that job. At one point, I was doing 3 people's jobs without hold-ups. On top of that, I still managed time to clean the entire store. It was my first job, and the first opportunity I was given to prove myself. I took it very seriously. I think it all just started to get to me though, and I cared less and less about getting there early. Nobody else was, anyways.

No, racism like straight up calling me whitey, making "jokes" about how I stole their people's land, excluding me from company events, whispering behind my back, supervisors on me about things they couldn't prove, calling me out on tiny disappearances they had to catch on camera when I go and aid a customer when other workers disappear for hours at a time. I didn't even take breaks. I didn't get lunch. No coffee breaks, no cigarette breaks. Outside job too, wasn't allowed to stay inside during winter, either. Gets down to -50c.

Thinking of getting an inside job this time.
>>
>>18062983
>>18062998
I started skipping lunch when I began office work, eating just a muesli bar.
>>
>have a decent office job
>very good looking
>be /fit/, work out few times a week
>have some classy hobbies like art & literature, going out and meeting with other classy people
>still no gf

Ok, honestly, that's basically because I'm not pursuing one actively but the fact that hoes do not line up at my door at their own is damn frustrating.
>>
>>18063001
Next time, you know where to not apply for jobs.

Some people are extremely sensitive. They think you're racist for not sitting next to them.
>>
>>18062991

There are plenty of cases like that. I know it from personal experience.
BUT. You can never know what led them to be in that position. You just assume they are spoiled brats who had a parent safety net all their lives. And even if that's the case the parents are at least partly responsible for it. No matter how much money and effort they supplied for them.
>>
>>18063014
So what lesds otherwise ambitious people to want but being unable to obtain a gf?
>>
>>18063009

None of those things will make girls line up at your door. Maybe gay men.
>>
>>18063014
That person was at one point my close friend, so I had no assumptions there. He treated me like total shit once I really got to know him. I helped him do his homework, bought stuff for him, even cover part of his rent during college but he didn't feel grateful for it. Instead he feel entitled. He wasn't kind towards his family either (fucking yelling at his sister lmao in front of his mom). Fucking worthless piece of shit.
>>
>>18062991
No anon, there legitimately are no jobs here.

And I'm the complete opposite of that. I don't blame anyone else for being a loser, it's all my fault. And since it's my fault, I can't change it.
>>
>>18063028
Move to a city
>>
>>18063028

>And since it's my fault, I can't change it.

Actually that's the one thing you can change.
>>
>>18063026
Lets face it, nothing you do, besides being a pimp for a living will make girls line up at your door.
>>
>>18063030
I do live in a big city. Actually there might be more jobs in the countryside, but they'd be taken by immigrants.
The problem is my country, not the city.

>>18063032
I'm a loser for a reason. I can't go back in time and change that. At my age, the damage is irreparable.
>>
>>18063036
Do you have a license?
Become a taxi driver.
>>
>>18063013
Maybe you have a point. It's possible that they were just assholes.
I just felt like the odd one out a lot of the time. I did my best, I tried to do be favors, but it just never really felt like I integrated into their group.
>>
>>18063026
>tfw had gayfags hitting on me in the past

>>18063035
True that, but this imbalance is still saddening. Average girl will get lots of above average guys as her orbiters. If you are a hot guy the symmetry does not work unfortunately.
>>
>>18063037
No I don't.
And boy oh boy, becoming a taxi driver here is impossible. The taxi license is passed down from father to son like some sort of holy heirloom. The taxi driver's union doesn't allow ANYONE else to get a new taxi license. It's one of the most closed jobs in the country and everytime the goverment tries to change it all the unions support them and go on strike and close the streets for days.

I know it was just an example, but you get the general idea of the job market I would have to deal with.
I'm not gonna tell you the country by the way but it's pretty easy to guess.
>>
>>18063035

Not really. Women are drawn to men that can make them feel safe. Whether it's through money, power, or even straight up physical domination. That's why fighters get pussy, social leaders get pussy, wealthy CEOs get pussy. Even the local bully that didn't finish high school gets pussy. Working out and reading will make you develop a better version of yourself but it won't get you pussy.
>>
>>18063049
No they're not. They don't give a FUCK about safety. They want to be abused and emotionally thrown around like a ragdoll.
>>
>>18063046
Ok, become a security guard.
I applied once, as an 18 yr old i think, and you had to do a small iq / personality test which i easily passed. Then i would have gone for a 3 week training and gotten assinged with guarding museums, but i gave it up in order to do an internship at my dads job instead (i guess he didnt want me to become a security guard so he talked with his bosses)
>>
>>18063049
Come on, all that I've listed locates me slightly above majority of average peasants and that's only a part of it.
I used to get puss when I was chasing it in the past but when I've seen that I mostly date down and women that have nothing to offer beside looks can still sort me out and take even better than me when they only want to made me mad.

It sound pathetic, I know, but I can't bring myself to any effort for a woman since then. They are just not worthy unless they offer to suck me on their own which has not happened recently.
>>
>>18063064
Same feeling here.
I have a car, a job, an apartment, 30 k in stocks, some other savings.

And the girls i date are fat, and neets and have mental illnesses. Normal girls do not look my way. They don't accept my offers. They act cold and reserved towards me.

Fuck did i even do to them?
Why am i never good enough?

Women always date up, they don't date on their own level, its uninteresting to them.
>>
>>18062897
Or maybe some peoples heads are just fucked? This is stupid as shit, you don't what the fuck you're talking about.

totally depends on the job.

I've walked off jobs that were wage slavery, and stayed years beyond when I should've left in jobs where I was valued and respected, yet underpaid.

Millenials seem pretty fucked tho.
>>
Nah.

I have no one to look after but myself, I enjoy the peace and quiet and although I do not have much, I enjoy what I have.

Good luck to everyone looking for a job and everyone currently working though.
>>
>>18062904

I had a shitty 9 to 5 for 5 years, and it was a drag to even do my 40 hours. Eventually my uncle helped me get a job as a contractor in the refinery industry. I got the experience I had there and went to a better company with more work. Been doing 7 days 12 hours all year so far. I might only make 20, but it could be a lot worse, and I have room to grow in this company.

You don't need a diploma. Get a job and bust just your ass. Stay late when no one else wants to and get there early.
>>
I know bosses aren't supposed to be your best friend. I know work is the opposite of fun but, its what you must do to have it.
But, god damn I've had 3 terrible bosses in a row.
Like I seriously wish death on them.
I've been having extremely shitty luck getting any jobs. Its breaking me down and while I know I need something more then a higschool diploma I suck at college and I think tradeschool is a scam. I don't know what to do anymore.
>>
>>18062897
My problem is that so many jobs reject you of ypu don't have the specialized degree required for it. I'm not expecting to get into a mid level job. What I'm looking at is entry. I've been turned down from temp agencies for not having enough experience.

The economy fucking blows dude.
>>
>>18063232

Well I don't know you but if I had to guess: you feel like everything in your life just kind of happened, you never really put much effort into what you have, you've always had it relatively easy school wise but never related to others socially as much.

What I'd recommend is finding something you can be proud of. Whether that's a hobby, a new job/career, something that you can look at and say that you worked hard for it and are proud of yourself for achieving it. Man always needs a goal to work towards, we don't work well when our life is stagnating, it's the cause of much of the depression epidemic frankly.

Fuck you nigger. You have no idea how difficult it is to find a fucking job, or was under the Obama administration, especially for a turbo autist like me. I assume most people who post on Adv, or 4chan in general have similar issues. I couldn't even get hired at Walmart in 2009, or McDonalds despite the countless times I applied. That's even if I get interviewed at these fast food places. Go kill yourself faggot.

I worked a shitty call center job for 3 months in 2012. The problem with it was that it was 40 minutes away, and had a quota system whereby you had to have a certain amount of surveys completed within a certain amount of time. If you didn't, you could be sent home as early as after just 2 hours after arriving. You had to call in to an automated system every morning 2 hours before your shift just to check if you're even scheduled to be there. Sometimes you don't get schedule at all for weeks. My longest was a month. Once I was finally called back in, I got sent home after 2 hours. I had to quit that gig cause it was no good. That's the best I was able to find back then....

In any case, I did finally get hired at Walmart last week for overnight stocking.

I also just received a call from a nearby Dollar General to interview today.

Is this just coincidental or did Trump already make America great again, so much so that even a worthless fuck like me could get hired?

I'm just like that other guy. Making $85k in a diverse and challenging industry, absolutely fucking hating every moment of it. I put on a good face of course, and pretend to my coworkers and friends that I'm not absolutely dripping with misery and anxiety about going back to the workplace, but hey, at least I have a fucking job, oh boy! All of this money is great that I don't have the time or energy to bother spending.

All I do is dream of getting out of work and doing absolutely fucking anything else.

Jobs are a godawful necessity of life, that are pretty much nothing but misery.

You two need to find a "work spouse". Google it.
Completely changed how miserable I was at work. I even look forward to it.
>>
>>18064288

I have had two "work spouses." One, her boyfriend told her to stop spending so much time with me, which I can respect, because I was actually developing feelings for her, and it's pretty clear she did too.

The second one just got fired.

Even having someone to commiserate with though still doesn't change the fact that I just hate work. I always have. It's something about being on someone else's schedule all the time.

You could always save up for a bunch of years and retire early. I recently read about a couple who saved up over a million in a few years and have retired in their thirties. Now they're just traveling around the world.
I don't honestly find that to be an appealing proposition because I'd inevitably get bored of anything that goes on too long but I do think saving a ton of money and using it to live a carefree (if frugal) life is not a completely crazy idea. I'd just be worried about the lack of socializing that might ensue. My job is the only socializing I do and even though I'm starting to get tired of the same faces it's still better than being completely alone.

You are getting it mixed up, I don't hate my job. If I'm miserable at work it's because I'm miserable all the time. I never had the attitude that you have to love what you do for a living. Work is work and that's why it pays, it's the one thing I'll never bitch about. It's like I go to work because I've got nothing better to do and no where else to go.

Also when it comes to a work spouse my workplace is male-dominated by an absurd margin and I don't swing that way.

What's the point? Robots are going to deprecate the shit out of us.
>>

Just like the industrial and digital revolutions did? There will always be jobs. If anything, they'll get even easier.
>>
>>18064301

Hypothetically I could try something like that, but I don't know if I'll be able to reliably say "I've saved enough" by the end of my thirties or whatever, having no clue how long my life expectancy is going to be. People retire at 65 these days and then live a lot longer than they used to. I'm definitely not ready to live a frugal life, and wouldn't want my skills to go stale if I had to re-enter the workforce.

I know that work is something I have to do, so I'm not bemoaning it or looking to get out of doing it, but the concept that it's a source of happiness to me is baffling.

I have a very active social life outside of work, so that's good.

I'm trying but I never ever get any calls back. I just get rejection emails. I sit and look at my resume everyday and wonder what it is that I'm doing wrong.

Well do you expect specific advise from generic information? The point of the advice is give yourself a challenge and give your life meaning, don't just float around to whatever happens. Figure out what you want and do it.

You can start by not being a whiny bitch to someone trying to help.

They will require more empathy and communication skills, mostly.

well it started of with outlining precise issues and ended with the same answer literally anyone has given ever in the history of advice

OK I'll ask a question: what do you want out of life?

Can't tell you that for you man, but i can tell you that the answer is what you should dedicate your time to.

I'll work for someone who isn't just as broke as I am.

The question is how to get out of California.
>>
>>18064754
Slightly longer question: how to get out of California without being arrested for vagrancy in the other states.

No, it's way different this time. We're talking about millions of people being fucked out of their jobs in less than 10 years. The transportation workforce for example is going to collapse on itself. You think all of those will just rise to the challenge and pursue a higher skilled job?

I want to but I am too scared to beg for it by every store. I can't drive I don't even have a car and I am not qualified for shit. I have been a shut in for the past 10 years and it is soulcrushing parasiting off my parents.

I want to get out of this.

>Welcome to Eastern Europe.

I hear you.

>get a job in a big company's headquarters
>paychecks bounce
>still a worthless POS

>study bankruptcy law in an attempt to recover stolen pay
>fail
>get an actual job filing people's bankruptcies
>these people are broke
>paychecks bounce
>still a worthless POS

>attempt to find work helping other lawyers
>every single one of them is cutting everything that can possibly be cut, to the point of conducting lawyer work from home

>apply for jobs at grocery store and subway
>we need contacts from your employers who haven't gone out of business yet
>no such employers
>worthless POS

>why don't kids make anything of themselves these days
>>
>learn to weld
>be good at it
>no one wants to hire a newfag
>oh well
>sign up for college
>doing pretty well
>still need money
I really, really don't want to do retail work for $9. What can I do instead?

I agree OP.
Also moving out of your parent's house and living by your own is crucial.
You will never achieve anything in life by being handed everything.
