Is it illegal to short a taxi? Im waiting for a cab to take me across town because there is no bus service here. But problem is I only have a $20 and the trip probably will cost maybe $35? Im planning on having the cabi drop me and my frat brother Aaron at a gay bar which is about a half mile from our house we will walk rest of the way.

do not spend money if you are broke. it is not illegal, but the implied contract from calling and using a cab is still valid. the fact that you don't have the money on you does not erase your debt. if you knowingly try to avoid paying in the way you describe that is fraud, and that is a crime.

It is totally illegal. It's called "theft of services" and it is exactly like eating in a restaurant and not paying.
Even worse, you're not stealing from the corporation but from the poor driver. Once the sum is on the meter, he has to pay it to the company, and if you stiff him, it comes out of his pocket.
