No, this was never right. This is the morality of the world, the world which wants to rip you apart and eat you as a snack. Some people have beliefs, but some people only have interests. If someone lacks beliefs, then their idea of morality will revolve entirely around the serving of that one person's interests.

In other words, your life is probably a giant swarm of people just saying 'give me what I want.' When you encounter someone who holds true to their beliefs, respect them.
