Sup /adv/,

Long story short, I'm 25 and trying to move out of my parents, but there's a few hitches and I don't want to leave for a few months and then end up back here.

Here's my situation:

>Currently live about 45-50 mins combined walk/train journey to my city where I work
>Living with my parents, I hate it so much, I feel like a child living here and I get in a pretty bad mindset living here combined with them arguing nonstop
>Spent 5 years lazily freelancing as a Videographer and Sound Engineer - pretty good at it and looking to find a 9-5 job producing in-house video content and will pay me more shekels
>Got £1500 in an ISA savings account (Not touching this)
>Got £2000 available
>Currently earn £450 p/m working a part time (Currently negotiating with my bosses to take on an extra day to bump it to £700 after tax)

Here's what I've done thus far:

>Been to a few house share viewings in the suburbs of my city
>Average price including bills is pretty much £400-£500 p/m - otherwise I'd be living too far out and making a similar commute as my current situation
>Worked out the monthly costs of everything, can probably afford a 3 month run with my £2000
>Found a place for £460 bills inclusive, housemates are chill
>I currently have a job offer from some in-house experience I did at an agency, but I have to apply for it, meaning I may not get it, currently getting my showreel together.

Here's the problem though:

If I don't get the job, which would solve the cost issues, I'm not sure what my plan B would be, as videographer jobs aren't the easiest thing to find in my city, let alone the competition to get them. Considering at my part-time I'd potentially be earning £700 p/m for 3 days a week, my only other plan would be to work 2 days a week for free at an agency for experience and to try and convince them I can add some sort of value.

Bottom line, I don't want to end up back home, I want this to be it, I'm just scared of blowing all my cash.
>>
In addition:

>My monthly outgoings would roughly be £1100 after tax for everything

Meaning if my part-time job covered £700, my savings could cover £400. This rounds up around 3 months stay, but after I would need a solution, otherwise there'd be a £400 hole I couldn't come up with.

TL:DR - My main issue would be finding a full time job that would support £1100 living costs. I'd preferably like it to be in videography and I'd like to avoid freelance due to how unpredictable it is.

Scared of failing desu.

Well I'm Australian, and we don't move out unless we have a reliable roommate. Otherwise cost pressures will get to you and you'll just end up back at home. Then again housing is so fucked here it's commonplace to live with family.

At this point in time you shouldn't be barely paying the rent. Either get more work or find somewhere more affordable.

You don't have the financial stability to move out.
Stay at home till you have a stable job that covers the costs of living alone without the roommates.
>>
>>18042564
Yeah, I'd say this is less the case here due to the contracts available that protect you from shitty roommates if they do cut and run or not pay up, but you're right nonetheless.

I was going to go to a viewing today, but I'm going to put my head down and get this showreel done, try and get this job first.

This is fair. I'd have my own room granted in any place I went, It would just be shared kitchen/bathroom etc. I'd rather have people to socialise with for now until I'm eventually in a place to move in with my girlfriend.

The main challenge living at home is the mindset it puts me in, I feel like a child and all the belief systems that come with it. When I'm out doing stuff, I feel like I'm taking control and being my own person. I've struggled so hard to work on applications at home because I get distracted by how comfortable it is in some ways.

But you're right, I'm not financially stable enough.

I moved to London on considerably less with a dependant girlfriend, worked out fine in the end. I'd say bite the bullet and do it. Part of biting that bullet means accepting more work, or even full-time work. I couldn't stay at home any longer. I'm an artist and obviously I didn't want to, but needs must and all.

I also moved to Asia on £1,000, so hopefully you'll feel a degree of trust when I say that it works out. As long as you're researched and not an idiot.

I think it might help to look at it this way; staying with your parents is going to 'cost' you far more in the long run. Working more (or full-time) hours was, for me, really worth it, even though I was a bit tired. If you approach it the right way, it's fine. Sure, you might have to work more, but you'll probably feel a lot more alive and happy too. I'd rather work and enjoy my freedom / life, than live with my parents and feel stifled.

Your other option is simply to wait it out, until you land that good job. I would put myself in the position of moving without a plan, because things always work out, but I wouldn't recommend it to others.

Other points;

Is your goal to move out ASAP regardless of anything, or is it to move out to a place you really love?
Despite your budget you will probably find it more expensive than that.
I can't really explain how tremendous the freedom is to your being- not to fault your parents but simply because you're so stifled in that 'treated-like-a-child" bubble.

Thanks for that response man, really appreciate it.

I think the big thing holding me back is that I blew about 5k in savings after uni when I moved straight into a 1 person ensuite. I had no idea what I was doing back then and didn't even track my money.

These days I track my money and think through every decision. I know I've changed massively and matured enough not to rush into decisions without a Plan B. But I guess my past failure worries me in that I'd hate for it to happen again.

I've identified these challenges in my plan thus far:
- What other job options are there available should I not get this full time position?
- Do I tick all the boxes for a videographer role? (The current position I'm apply for yes, but others I have no idea)
- Given it's difficult to find a full-time job in this field, what are my alternatives?

>Is your goal to move out ASAP regardless of anything, or is it to move out to a place you really love?

It's a mix of both, but the sooner the better. I had therapy back a few years ago due to some childhood stuff pertaining to my parents. Got past it, did well for two years, then I had anxiety/panic return last November. I'm convinced it's down to a feeling of being stuck and not moving in a direction, which is why I'm so keen to move as soon as possible because I think that being at home is part of the problem.

>Despite your budget you will probably find it more expensive than that.

Actually, I've budgeted it pretty extensively, I've overestimated on everything, so actually it's probably less. I've considered all the extra things, so the estimate is fairly accurate. The main downside to it is that it won't allow me to save (at first), but I figure that's a longer term goal I can figure out as I go.

>I can't really explain how tremendous...

I feel like I'm living in limbo for sure and it's breaking me down, I don't feel like my own person when here.
