It's my best friend's 30th birthday coming up and I need ideas. We haven't done presents for about 15 years. But it's 30, y'know. Plus I'm getting a nagging from the gf.

Bit of background. I have no idea how much he earns but I'm pretty sure it's close to 7 figures.
I'll look to spend about £50.
Some things that have been suggested:

He runs his own business and wears nice t-shirts/polos all day. Would never use.

He's got a shit ton of the nicest type of booze he likes. Only drinks occasionally, and when it does it's the same thing (belvedere vodka)
Truth be told we're not that close anymore. Maybe see eachother 3-4 times a year. A shame, but while we'll always be besties, our lives are just different.

As I say, we've sort of lost touch.
He likes making money and spending it on nice things. So obviously I'm never going to get him something that he's blown away by.
Couple that with not really spending much time together these days (location) makes it real hard.
He's been travelling a bit more recently but again, that's like jetting off to a six star hotel to relax by a pool, not exactly "travel".

Why don't you invest your money on an activity you can do together? A day trip, a ticket for an event, a first class for some sport, stuff like that.

Don't book anything, just discuss with him about it and say you'll cover the costs as a birthday gift.
Of course he's busy and all, but it'd be a good excuse to be around each other a bit and have fun.

The best gifts in my opinion are these two things in order.
1. Something he absolutely needs but he doesnt know exists or hasnt thought about. Eg. Dude hates getting snow and ice off his car in winter... A really good deicer or a car cover.
2. Stuff he would love that he just wouldnt buy himself because its too stupid like shit from novelty stores or fan material.. Like if he likes star wars one of those voice changing storm trooper helmets, or a goddamn whoopie cushie if hes a joker. No decent self respecting adult would buy it. But if it showed up on their door theyd be filled with glee.
