I've never heard of a church rejecting someone. Just go to mass every week and meet people maybe ask the priest about events/volunteering.

Sounds like a shit church anyway if they treat people like that. Find a better one. I'm not religious myself, but I've understood that the whole point of a church is to be a support system. That church clearly is not. There has to be better options out there to meet your needs.
