You're desire to be close to this person, and your curiousity about their life will eventually result in you becoming clingy and pushing this person a way. Out of obligation and understanding, they won't end the relationship. Instead, their mind will begin to wander over time. They'll meet nice fun people that they can interface with everyday, and people that have more opportunities to grow on them. This is all going to be going on as you go about your day and wonder what she's up to. One day, once she's ready to get serious and committed with somebody else, she'll cut you off. You'll suffer for months, blaming yourself. What could I have done better? Was I too clingy? Was she just not into me? What could she have done better? Would it have changed if I was there?
You'll cry, and cry while she fucks and fucks somebody that isn't you. Eventually, you'll reach a state of uncaring. It never really mattered. You mistakenly believed that you were close to somebody, when it reality, you were always kept an arms length away. Far enough to never be close, but close enough to always be there. The zone.

Yeah, I can understand that. They've given you no reason to not trust them, so you're more inclined to believe.

It reminds me of my friend's husband. He wanted to attend a prestigious school, so he moved. Not long after he moved, she had found out that he was spending almost all of his time with this one girl, going out and eating with her just the two of them. He wasn't responding as often or as quickly, getting back home at odd hours and skipping skype calls.
Terrible stuff.
